Bought a 10' zodiac with wood floors and don't know what to power it with. Mainly for close offshore fishing and running baits. Buddy got a 6hp 4stroke for a dam good price. Any thoughts.? _________________ Thanks Bubba |

| Would think that a 6-10 HP would be fine. |

I had a 10' zodiac with a 9.9 on it and got on plane perfect with just me and a ice chest on it. With two people going to the rig I would have to have my friend sit on the front so we could get on plane. If your wanting to get on plane I personally would go with no less then a 9.9.
Hope this helps |

I HAVE A 15HP 2 STROKE ON A 10'2''
DON'T UNDER POWER IT, OR YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME BREAKING SURF.
THE BOAT SHOULD BE RATED FOR A 78LBS MOTOR.
HAD A 9.9 THAT WORKED OK ( BUT SOMEONE LIKED IT BETTER THEN I )
AN STOLE IT FOR MY HOUSE. ( OFF THE BOAT ).
FOUND A 15HP , THEY WEIGHT IS THE SAME AS A 9.9. JUST MORE POWER ON TAKE OFF.
GOOD LUCK !
P.S. A 4 STROKE MOTOR ! THE WEIGHT IS MORE THAN A 2 STROKE.
JUST LOOK AT YOUR BOAT TAG FOR THE WEIGHT.

Go with as big as you can... I have a 9.9 on my 11" footer and it gets the job done but my buddy has a 15 on his and its a significant difference. Legally in pins it should be sub 10 but i have had a couple "Visits" from the ranges and they said they really don't have an issue.
You will draw some spectators during the summer when you are coming in from fishing. |

i run the same motor as drunkswimmer. Big heavy 4 stroke 9.8. if you could find a 2 stroke i would say 15. i have 0 problems with a 9.8 and will out run drunkswimmer any day of the week, but i also have a rib. from the wood floors i would say you have an inflatable keel.

Guys, I'm picking one of these up in a couple months, could you tell me what size and brand boats you have? I'm seeing a lot on Ebay but I have no background to judge the manufacturer or quality .
I already have a 15hp 4-stroke Mercury for it. |

i have a 10'2 bombard rib. Dont recall what drunkswimmers is
if you have a place to keep it i would recommend a rib. but take a look at weight, mine weights 91lbs empty. motor is 84lb and i carry no more than 3 gal of gas. if your solo lugging that kind of weight will wear you out before you even leave.
DS picked up a project rib that easily went 200lbs for the hull alone. |

That's going to be problem, the motor is 114lbs and I have to go with the 10' or longer boats to stay within the horsepower rating. The one I'm favoring weighs 160lbs with an aluminum floor.
I do have a 6hp 4-stroke, I might have to go smaller boat-wise. |

Rig trips and off the end of the jetties. No trailer, transport in the truck bed.
I'm ditching the aluminum boat I never use and am looking at selling the 22' center console.
Will also see use on Lake Travis for striper since all the boat ramps are closed for the forseeable future.
Essentially, this and kayaks will be my only watercraft. No more trailers, $300 gas bills or boat storage fees. |

inflatable everything thing is good. i got a buddy who rolls up his in his jeep and when he gets to the beach her breaks up a leaf blower and fills it up. then tops it off with a foot pump. takes all about 10 mins.
if yall want, send me a pm with your numbers and ill do the same, we like to run 2 boats or more just for safety when we head off shore. |
