Does anyone else on this forum happen to use a 12 volt , 55lb thrust, Motorguide, saltwater, Varimax , bowmount, hand control, trolling motor?

I have one, but it is a 24 Volt with a cracked handle. Sorry

Nothing really it's just doing the same thing it has since it was new and others besides me are having the same problem. It shuts down when it's hot outside. As soon as it gets in the shade it fires back up. Motorguide always pays for the new circuit board. They know it's a problem. I keep asking why they can't fix the problem. It doesn't pop a breaker, it doesn't draw top many amps, it's just a board that they end up changing every year. They pay the bill and South Texas Trolling Motors does the fix. The salt water Minn Kota is looking pretty good to me right now. I'm a MotorGuide fan though.

I've been running a MotorGuide motor for a long time and I have never heard of or had that problem. Try to cover it (the head) up with a towel
when it's in the sun.
That's crazy.

Ill just keep and Ice pack on it.  Motorguide is not having problems with the 24 or 36 volt models.

Heat kills....I do low voltage electronics in the oil field. Eevery year when it gets hot we loose a lot of equipment to the heat. An ice pack might work....lol

No don't need to speed 3 or 4 is fine , they know there is a problem, and everyone has the same problem. If you can't run a 12volt on high speed why have a high speed? I used to run my other Motorguides on high speed they were 12volt. This is the new digital model. Hot no run....put in shade run perfect.

No don't need to I usually run on speed 3 or 4 and there are times when that is too much. They know there is a problem, and everyone has the same problems . Next time out I will cover the head and see how that works. Maybe the newer versions of this model do not have the same problems. The guys at South Texas Trolling Motors keep a supply of circuit bords in stock for this very reason. However I can't understand why there has no been a recall from Motorguide. As long as they keep paying for the repair.........

Frequency modulation as per Drake. That's far beyond my scope. Motorguide has offered to replace the head again for free. It just never solves the FM problem. Maybe there will be some newer upgrades in the newer one. I just dropped it off at South Texas Trolling Motors again ( great bunch up there) as requested by Motorguide. The guy said maybe you have had a bad armature from the get go which could cause amp draw. I'm going to change all my terminals and maybe install a heavier battery. All agreed that the #9 or 10 wiring from the console to the plug is big enough to carry the current, infact it's bigger than the wiring on the motor itself. We will see?

| That solution makes sense. The problem is whatever is causing the heat not the board that fails when it gets hot. |

This weekend while Motorguide is covering the repair on the troller I'm going to go through all my electrical and replace any bad terminals and pull some new #6 wire for the trolling motor connections. #6 wire will support 60 amps or better and I'm using the good stuff so it will pull more amps. It a slight bit of over kill but worth it.
