Do any of the boaters know the rules for approaching a bridge? All the times I have been fishing there I noticed that none of these people slow down while approaching the bridge, it is a NO WAKE ZONE!!! Some people I've noticed try to slow down and just put the bow of the boat in the air and make the biggest wake possible. A select few actually slow down without making a wake.

I also think it is courteous to slow down for us fishermen standing there getting pounded by the wake as they pass by.

Does this bother anyone else?

I think a game warden should sit there and give out citations, or there should atleast be a sign posted.

If I am not mistaken, there are signs indicating no wake zone. They are several hundred yards back from the bridge. A lot of boaters have mental lapses or invisible boundaries in their heads. Their imaginary boundaries are usually about 100 feet.

It is kind of like surfers coming too close to open piers and/or jetties.

Good luck on a game warden. I would not hold breath unless you have a really good pair of lungs and a good doctor.

If I am not mistaken, the no wake zone in the Packery starts and ends with the residential area. When the "No Wake" signs were first put up, they ran almost the whole length of the Packery. About two weeks later they painted over all but the ones that border the houses. The no wake zone by the bridge was in effect when the barges were there because leaving a wake between the barges made it dangerous to get through. I am one of those inconsiderate boaters that speeds under the bridge. I didn't realize it bothered the wade fishermen so much. Sorry. I will slow it down.

as a boater myself no-wake to me means no-wake. wakes can in some cases cause damage to peoples piers and watercraft tied off at the docks.its just good common respect for the other guy.and you always reap what you sow.

When I take my boat out, I always slow down for canoes, kayaks and waders. But I sure as heck aint reaping what I sow.

I agree whole heartedly. I think we should be able to make a potato gun and fire it the A-HOLES that run on full plain through any no wake zone. The signs are put up for a reason. The ones that have brain farts, every once in a while that excuse will work. Not everyday!! This has to stop.

As far as fishing where there is boat traffic, you obvious ly have not been in a yak and gotten tumped over by a wake!

As stated above, when a full plane boat just slows down, the boat hull pushes a hugh wake behind the boat. This is operating the boat at it's least efficiency displacing the most water and creating the largest possible wakes. This is really bad for everyone. These waves (not speed) do the damage to everyone & everything and the powerboat burns the maximum fuel.

I am a former powerboat angler and water skier who kayaks now. I have always been a stickler about boat wakes. It absolutely amazes me how many powerboaters have no awareness of their wakes and their size or the damage they can cause. They have no knowledge of when and why their boat produces a wake and most don't seem to care. They seem to equate speed with wake. NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!! Very high speeds and very low speeds equal minimum wakes/waves. Everything else in between is producing larger wakes peaking with the largest wakes at the bow high medium running speed.

As a kayaker, as long as you give me a little clearance so I don't think you're gonna run over me, I am good. Run full plane, full throttle and go on by!!!! Your boat is running extremely efficient and displaces very little water meaning a small wake!!! COOL with me and my kayak!!!! I am even cool with in a narrow channel just give me clearance!!!!

Or before you get to me, shut it all the way down, let your wake catch up to you, then idle by me. Ask how I'm doing, tell me about the big one you caught this morning, say have a good day and go on. Again your boat is running at its most efficient and displacing very little water or no wake!! Again COOL for me and my kayak!!!!! And you can jump right back on it as soon as your even with me or just past me. Your wake is going to be past me and won't harm me.

In the Packery Channel, I do believe the No Wake Zone is from the channel-side homes west of the bridge back down to the county park. The no wake zone at the bridge was temporary for construction purposes only.

This may sound funny to most of you guys, but.......I like to catch crabs down there between the houses and the bridge. Last summer, I saw several near misses between powere boats, kayaks, and waders. I even had a game warden come pretty close to taking my brother out while crossing the channel in his kayak. Bottom line...Slow Down and all of these incidents could have been avoided.

I am a boater. I slow down for waders, yakers, and other boaters. Not because I am a nice guy but because I am responsible for MY wake. MY wake does damage to someones person or property I am responsible. They get my boat number, make a report to law Enforcement people, they track me down and I pay the cost. I don't want to hurt anyone or damage anyones property. It cost too much money to go fishin already and I don't want to have to pay more.

I own a pwc,a kayak,and a set of waders, learn to put up with it fishin is fishin no matter how u do it, if u don't like a few little waves go somewhere else

Topdog15 is right, I fish out of kayaks about 4 days a week and I can't count the number of times I have been close to turtleing because some A-hole doesn't want to slow down. I find that all sorts of PBters do this and just frustrates me on how irresponsible some folks can be.
