The word from inside the local commercial fishing has it that some gillnetters were busted with thousands of feet of gill nets and at the time 1500 lbs of red and trout fillets...fillets not whole fish. Also the may be a resturant owner or 2 guilty of buying the illeagle fillets. The fishing was being done at night as usual in the backyard and deadmans hole. More to come as word gets out. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

If that is really the case then now we know why fishing has been a bit slow in the backyard.

| At least they got caught. Hope that is a discouragement to others. |

| They need to hang them high. As much recreational pressure as there is on our waters these days, we don't need A-holes like this putting that much more pressure on our fishery. Scum...pure scum... |

Now that you mention it last Tuesday morning around 5:00a there was alot of commotion at Billings, another guide and myself watched a game warden flying down the ICW without his running lights on and turn in at the Packey headed to Billings, there were also 3 or 4 CCPD cars there. Sounds like that is when they got captured.

| If true, kudos to the game wardens and CCPD. I hope the gill netters get a long time behind bars...long enough to give the fish population time to recover and to convince others not to use gill nets. |

| In this economy, I fear that things like this will become more the rule than the exception. One day, they might close the whole coastline to fishing at night, except from public piers, etc where things can be controlled. That way aircraft (drones) with FLIR can easily monitor any boat in the water. Don't laugh - stranger things have and are going to happen. |

hell, the piers at night is where most of the illegal crap goes on. But true poaching usually goes on at night. |
