After watching the news last night and seeing all the trophy trout washing up on the shoreline due to starvation because the high salinity levels have kill off most food resources was pretty sad. I guess there is no hope in times like these. You'd think they could spread shrimp pellets all over or dog food or something to help the fish out. However I guess letting nature take it's course is just the only way it is. The clams were piled up a foot high or better along the shores its affecting the whole food chain from the bottom up. We need some major rains.

I didn't get to see the report but I wonder where this was? I have been out in baffin quite a bit lately and seen tons of shrimp, mullet, and crabs. I have also yet to see a dead fish? Maybe it's from a different part of baffin but I have been fishing the very back parts around Site 55 and up to kratz. You would think that would be the area hit hardest by something like that.

The pictures on the news are from an older fish kill. Nothing recent. The picture of the clams is pretty crazy. They are dwarf surf clams and can survive high salinities. Remember when Baffin went fresh a years back? My thoughts are that the influx in freshwater, not lack thereof, caused the massive clam dieoff. I'm not sure freshwater is the answer to Baffin's problems. The bay has been hypersaline for a long time and has consistently produced big trout.

I hear that. I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully someone is not dumping stuff into a river or a creek somewhere up stream. Last night on the news they made it look as if they were right on the scene.

Same great over-sensationalized media coverage I'm sure. They can turn the simplest thing into a national epidemic overnight.

That "report" was a complete hatchet-job. The photo was from a 2010 fish kill, and the subject of the report was on a growing consortium being spearheaded by the local Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries group.

No imminent danger, and besides, if you replay the clip you will here them say "all of the dead drum" when in fact the picture is of trout!! Rolling Eyes typical news garbage. (And as far as I know, the author of the clam photo never released it for KIII to use!).

Sikes does the best job, and he has also reported on the new consortium.

The new reporter at KIII that reported this "story" used to work for CNN. That should help you understand the slant. The straight story was in the CallerTimes.

Yes, all the fish in Baffin are dead, best stay around the causeway.
