|
|
I'm one of those that does extensive research and planning before I buy something. I'm 5'11" and around 210lbs. Trying to find a good stable kayak that will work for yaking baits and even fishing from, possibly out by a rig. Heres some of the options I'm thinking of so far. BTW I figure that if i get one that is long but too skinny, I can always add stabilizers to it. Looking for one on the low end of the price range cause I ain't rich by any means lol.

http://corpuschristi.craigslist.org/bar/3589063830.html (unsure what brand and model this one is but going to see if he would trade for my saltwater trolling motor)
Still looking at my options but wanted to get an opinion from yall. Almost was thinking about getting one of the Sea Eagle inflatable kayaks but constant use around the beach would for sure kill it plus the chances of me going out and using it around an oyster reef aren't good for it either. _________________ Jacob McDonald

buying a kayak is like buying a pistol, got to see what fits...
hit up Jerry B's there in corpus or better yet, go to the demo days and try them out. _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

Any idea when the next demo days is? Also where is Jerry B's?
I had an Ocean Kayak Drifter about 10years ago but I sold it, one of the worst mistakes I ever had. _________________ Jacob McDonald

not sure when the next one is, but they usually announce on the message boards as it gets closer...with the weather starting to turn to spring a little, it won't be long...
the drifter is a nice boat, i use to run the malibu II, was great for me, would sit in the center and paddle out, my barge would bust through waves...on the way back, i would disconnect the seat, slide to the very back and surf back in with the nose pointing up most of the time...fun stuff. _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

For bait running yaks I've always preferred a short yak, Frenzy or Mysto would be my favorites. I couldn't keep the dang Spec/Scrambler straight, but then when I paddled it my skills were likely lacking a good bit. Fish N' Dive was a tank getting through the breakers but you couldn't roll it if you tried. I'm not a fan of hatches in a bait running yak, which proved accurate after rescuing the dude in the half sunk kayak out past my lines at Sharkathon this year. _________________ JJ |

I used a frenzy for years. Works great but got tired faster than i do in my scrambler. Scrambler is less stable but once you get the hang of it i actually preferred it. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

I have a saltwater trolling motor, browning barracuda bowfishing bow fully setup, fiberglass pirogue, and a few other things. Give me a call and we can discuss it. What all you including with it or is it just for the yak? _________________ Jacob McDonald

I had the idea that Jerry B was out of business except for rentals. Any updates?
Malibu X-Factor is a good big guy kayak as are the Cobra Fish N Dives although I do see a lot of Ocean yaks being used for short bait runs in the surf.
Good luck! _________________ Mike |

Its a Minn Kota Riptide 40lb thrust 12V
EDIT: Went out and looked at the trolling motor to get the correct size. Its also a transom mount with I think a 36" shaft. The switch in it was busted when I bought it so I replaced it and all connections are clean as well as new battery cables. _________________ Jacob McDonald
