Sup guys! Ive been working a lot lately but finally had the weekend off for the Kayak Wars Kick off!

Thursday night!...not many pics here i forgot to charge my camera battery so i needed what was left for pics but here is the low down...

Tried to fish new waters and get the hang of corpus...finding the fish was relatively easy...

we all left with a limit of drum and a few reds....i had a few point worthy fish after midnight kicking off KW...

Friday Night

It was a all out full effort kayak war trip.... we google earthed a interesting section of the ICW and made the long paddle over....

along the way i paddled over drum and red fish sitting shallow ...

i got to the spot we were aiming for and shined my light down to check the bottom structure since google earth is a little tough to tell exact bottom structure...

low and behold im hovering right over a nice flounder...after a little fumbling around i tied on a DOA terror eyez and put it a few inches in front and channeled a wounded minnow....

The flounders eyes follow and BAM fish on! i released the spool not knowing it if inhaled...after a few high intensity moments the sand settles and i can see the flounder but no lure...YES!

HOOKSET!

Flounder in the yak!

How do yall handle these suckers i had one flip out the yak they are slippery buggers. Couldn't even get the grips into their jaws i had to just squish its head. I wouldnt be able to pick up more than a limit without harming the ones i want to release...

anyways we anchor up and toss out and start to talk about how awesome it would be to really get into some good fish....

Right then Joels 309 starts singing and its fish on...

he starts the day off with a nice Oversized redfish!

The clickers start singing a few times but both of us losing what was likely 40+" big uglies after about 20 minute battles the hooks were pulling trying to get them out of the channel...

I land a few drum and than a solid tournament redfish!

We left that night with a limit of drum each 5 red fish and a flounder.....

Saturday morning we slept in late being exhausted from fishing all night...around 11 AM me and Robert load up the yaks and hit the canals i'm living on to explore and see if we can find new grounds...

I didnt expect to catch much but i started the day off hook into and losing a decent side trout yak side....

next up was a hungry little gag grouper that inhaled my Flappin Devil

We paddled a good 5-6 miles in and out the canal and found one spot that we really wanted to fish at night...

The plan was put into action and we launched around 6PM

stopped a few times to play with the trout in the lights...

I tried like hell to get a Big Ugly to the yak but my rods were getting a LOT of floating grass caught up on their lines so i gave up and thought about the flounder the night before...

I figured what the heck ill try it...

so robert and i slowly paddled on the glass night around the flats using our spotlight to try and see flounder...

we saw plenty of drum none that would stick around to toss a lure...

FINALLY we came across a spot that had a silhouette of something..could it be...yea it is...a flattie!...i stopped over him and let Robert have a shot...

i had him stake out and walk over which kicked up a lot of dust..lesson learned...finally it settled and he put the terror eyes in front of it..slight twitch...BAM! he lifts it up and throws it in the kayak...it starts going crazy so i put the grips on its head to control it...

We called the night a success but didnt stop there... we split up trying to find more...i scored and saw at least 10 flounder with only half of them hitting...

i lost 3 of my tiny terror eyez that were working like a charm and had to bump to the bigger size which didnt get as good of a response but still had a few hit....

We fished our butts off and got off the water around 3:30 AM but i had my first limit of flounder so it was worth it!

We had a good start to Kayak Wars with the numbers being:

72 Drum...
9 Redfish...
3 Keeper trout...
8 Flounder...

good numbers between the 3 of us...

I racked up 210 Points for Team Mackeral Mafia...Hope to keep it going through the year and have more points per trip as i learn the area more...

Till next time..
Life is good...
