Why is the fishing so slow out at the pier lately? I haven't even got a bite the past three times I've been out there.

Hiya!,

Its called winter and the water temps are in the 50sF. Species diversity in the surf this time of year is far less than the warmer months. There are still fish to be had, but with cooler temps they may be inactive or pushed to deeper water. All the fish I have caught in the past week were skiddish on the take and didnt put up a fight. Even the whiting I caught I didnt realize they were on the line until I reeled my rod in. The two rays I caught didnt even bounce the rod tip. I went check the bait and it felt heavy. Thought I had seaweed on.

Let the water temps get back into the mid to upper 60sF and there will be more fish to be had.
