Hey folks.....
I need your help please. A year or two ago I recall there was some mention on this site about two particular charter captains living there in the Bluff that did offshore charters out of Packery (including state waters) and did charters four 4 - 6 people. I have searched and come up empty.
Can anyone recall the names of these captains? I have friends coming to town in February that would like to do a state water snapper charter.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Howdy sir. Well, Capt. Billy used to take folks out in his Panga. That may be one captain you're thinking of. Also, I don't know of anyone who would be running offshore charters out of Packery. It actually doesn't sound very profitable to me, I could be wrong. If I was a charter captain who had an offshore boat capable of clearing the bridge, I would still launch out of Port A for financial reasons. Most folks looking for a charter boat start by loooking in Port A. With that being said, I'm sure you could find one in Port A who would be happy to take you. Start by calling Deep Sea Headquarters to see who's in town. Call Woody's and The Wharf too.
The problem is you'll be hard pressed to find someone without a federal permit. If they have a federal permit they must abide by federal rules even in state waters and that means no snapper til June... Unless the season starts and ends in July this year. Your best bet would be to find someone with an offshore boat and pay them under the table to take you state water snapper fishing. (hint hint for you offshore boat owners to send someone a pm). Good Luck.
If I'm wrong on any of that will someone please correct me. I'd hate to steer someone in the wrong direction. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

Yes , that is one of them. Thanks.
I talked to them once and apparently they have more than one boat and one is permitted for state waters and the other is permitted for federal water.
There is one more if anyone can remember though. |

I don't know of anyone other than Dave; I used to run a few trips out of Port A but don't anymore.
Call Dave, we've fished together a long time and he'll put you on the fish. _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

I've fished with Capt. Dave many times, and several were offshore via Packery. Easy enough.
Then again if you really wanted to head out Packery and a Captain was unwilling to pick you up here (assuming his boat fit under the bridge), I'd wonder how agreeable he would be on anything else. It isn't that hard to stage your boat through PC from Port A! _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |
