If you're speaking of getting to and from the access roads to the beach, I
I used to surf out there a bunch many moons ago, never had four wheel
drive and never got stuck. A little common sense goes a long way when it
comes to the beach.... I make it a practice to pull up to the sand slowly and do a quick recon before committing. If the sand was/is really dry and fluffed up from other vehicles going through and/or being dug out I thinks it's wise to use a different route through. Then look both ways to make sure nobody's coming, back up any get a running start. Momentum is your best friend.
Same thing when leaving the beach: get out and walk up to the dry zone if it looks iffy and pick your route through, then use momentum to float through. Try not to turn too much when going through the softer areas. Turning the front wheels only causes more drag and bleeds off momentum faster. _________________ Dave

The sand along mustang island is often "maintained" and drivable from in front of the Mayan princess hotel/condo/whatever the heck it is, south to the fish pass jetty. But this was over the summer, I don't know if they still keep it drivable into the fall/winter. I drove up and down the beach from the fish pass jetty almost to Horace Caldwell Pier in port a just in my 2wd hooptie car. Fish pass jetties are a neat place. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
