Having had a day off i've been online for the most part and have perused through a ton of pages and i must say there are a TON of catches proudly displayed ... NOW while not every fish was kept and some were released by are there any good guess-timates as to how many fish the Bays hold year round?
Any fear of fish numbers declining and not being able to be replenished?

How old is a 15" Spec? 20"

Age on a 18" Red? 28"?

Curious minds wants to know....

Let's see if this might help...

The growth rate of spotted seatrout differs between males and females, with females growing faster. Approximate lengths at various years of age are given in the following table.

AGE MALE FEMALE
1 9" 8"
2 14" 17"
3 17" 20"
4 18" 23"
5 18" 24"
6 19" 25"
7 19" 26"

I've had a plan for years to dump bucket-loads of jello into the bay, and when it sets up, we could slice through it and FINALLY get that all elusive, accurate count...... But then, all the fish would be dead, so it's purely an academic exercise.

Once I count all those jello-bound fish, they can't reproduce any more, so yea, again, I may have not thought this one all the way through. (TPWD management of the fish has been pretty good so far, so I for one don't have any pressing "fear")

~ 1-2 years old at 15", 2-3 years old at 20". Females are typically larger than the males.

About the same for the 18" red, ~ 1-2 years old. A 28" red is ~ 3-5 years old. Same for the sex differences with this species also.

Only the Shadow knows (and a few people here on the site Cool ). I have to keep a low profile, and that's not a tangential reference to SB.....

I can tell you that I am a "professional" Weighmaster, and do many, many tournaments a year. If you have competed in some of the larger (or smaller, for that matter) local ones, you may have had your fish come under my inspection. Hence the Name - Scrutinizer.

And yes, the "Thing Fish" album cover is a direct result of me being a major Frank Zappa fan.

I've got one too in fact was destined to go to Doc Mckee for an otolith check to see how old it was. Somehow it got lost in Captain Billy's bait freezer. Smile
