Are you talking about a Mansfield Mauler? It's a popping cork. I don't know if you fish it with mullet. I usually fish it with artificials.

You can always free line mullet and then even add an egg sinker.

This may be what you're looking for (Joe Mahler):

This guy is an author and illustrator and has several books out. The rigs he illustrates are common to fishing our area.

Yes, that is it! after asking my buddie on more details for the type of rig that he was talking about. He mentioned that it was named after Mahler and it was utilized around the bays in CC.

I knew the type of rig, I just didn't know it was called Mahler rig too.

Thanks again for the help and support. I appreciate it!

You tie a soft plastic to it and when you retrieve the line you give the line a pop, the lure will come out of the water and you let it flutter down for ten seconds retrieve some line and repeat.

Great way to get into lure fishing.

Although sometimes the bright cork will get the hit =)

I use the Cajun Thunder popping cork. This is what I start all of my fishing days with.
