I went and met up with some of the good folks at the CCA/CPL Hatchery this afternoon after I got word they are doing southern flounder stocking now. They are doing different bays in the area, and are in need of brute stock from more bays. I am going to be helping them with one particular bay that I have been catching alot on rod N reel. Gonna be a great deal! I saw some massive flounder allready in their tanks. Alot well over 30", one looked close to 40".

Between them and UTMSI, we really do have some of the best cutting-edge fisheries science going on here in the coastal bend. _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

Ill take mine grilled with a skewer of shrimp on the side.
Honestly though, im excited to be part of the project. Catching good fish, and helping the fishery is a win/win for all of us. |

Now we can have stocker flounder to go with our rat red stockers. What a waste of money. The entire hatchery program needs to be done away with, and the money put toward opening and maintaining Gulf Passes if we want healthy flounder and redfish population.
Also, hopw about we make flounder a gamefish instead of a meat market fish. Unbelievable that sportsmen put up with paying for a hatchery program to provide fish for COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN to make money on. |

Overfishing of reds is why the hatchery 1st started. Its why the bag limit is 3 fish now. They could have never opened it and let people fish out reds. I hear all these old timers telling stories about redfish being killer back then, and now its not half as good. Gee, I wonder why? People that dont respect the resource have no business fishing in the resource. And for all the people who know about the midnight madness at the packary bridge on Dec 1st, and the guys outloud bragging about taking more than 5 flounder or making multiple trips, I dare ya to try that this year. Its stupid $hit like that they hurts fish populations, and is why the hatchery exists. Instead of bashing a good thing, you should go over there, talk to the biologists, and see 1st hand what they are doing. |

i thought the overfishing was more because of commercial fishing, not the rec guys, but could be wrong?? _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com
