Woke up early this morning and hit PINS. I was at the 20 when the sun came up. I saw 2 nice bucks on the way down and a few does a little further down the beach. I waded out before sunrise just in time to see a 7'+ shark come cruising by. He wasn't really cruising he was on a mission. In the next 20 minutes I saw three more good sized ones and decided to move. I had already caught about 20 skippies on my fly rod by this time. (every cast). I headed down to the 25 and stopped to talk to a gentleman who was quite upset that all he could catch was sharks. He had landed 9 and been broke off by a few large ones. He said he had waded out early and saw four sharks cruising around him and decided to fish from the sand. Driving was very good until 25 then you might have to use 4x4. I headed back north and found a spot where the guts weren't quite so deep and I could fish a little more comfortably. I had about a 3 1/2' tarpon come cruising by and there are a tons of drum running the shallows as well as some very nice reds. I saw a couple of huge bull reds but could not get a good cast on them. I did manage to sight cast my first black drum on the fly. I also sight casted a nice red which popped off. I just got a go pro and should have some video of the shark and the drum. I also tried to get some pics of the deer but I will have to see how those come out. I will post them up later.
Forgot to mention there was no weed anywhere and bait balls were getting slammed a couple of hundred yards out. I am pretty sure they were sharks feeding considering the thrashing and amount of water they were kicking up. I will probably be back out there tomorrow.

| I've been waiting for your report since you mentioned in an earlier post that you were heading down there with your fly rod. A few questions for you. What type of line sinking or floating? What flies? Hopefully, I'll be down there on Sunday some where in the teens. I've been trying to get my 13 year old son on a decent fish with a fly and maybe we both can get lucky this weekend. I'm throwing a 9wt and he's throwing an 8. Please any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
