The hummingbird migration has started with the birds already showing up at my feeders. When it gets into full swing I will have 6 feeders out and will be filling them 2 to 3 times daily. I will post some pics latter on at the height when I have a couple of hundred showing up for some sweet water.

One formula is one cup of water to 1/3 cup of sugar, boil until sugar is dissolved--no color necessary--bright red ribbon on feeder. Refrigerate unused liquid.

Stan, how many species do you usually have? Up here we almost never see anything but Ruby Throats, but many years back I was looking out the kitchen window at a female RT when all of a sudden a hummingbird TWICE her size landed next to her and scared her away!!!! Shocked

This puppy was WAY lost.................

The hummers are thick around my feeder right now too!!! Very Happy

My Dad up at the mudhole formerly known as Lake CC has swarms 2 weeks ago but I am just seeing the first few on my Esperanza bushes.

The feeder syrup is cooling as I type. Very Happy

I use filtered water to remove chlorine and 1 cup of cane sugar to 4 cups of water. If you use filtered no need to boil. Do not use food coloring. Make sure your feeders are clean no black stuff around the feeding ports. The premix and premeasured feed mixtures are fine I use them during the slow times. It's really simple and the whole family gets a kick out of it. The birds will return to the same places to feed everyear so keep it up. This is the fall migration they will return in March going back north. They will feed and move on. Its like a swarm of bees at my house as they are taking the coastal route on the way to Mexico. I get 2 types mostly. The ruby red throat and the blackchin, males are smaller than females, and fighting among them is normal. Its crazy for about 2 weeks and then they are gone. Very brave for their size. Very Happy You may not get a whole lot the first year but it will progress every year. You have to stick with it . Be sure to clean and refill atleast once a week or as soon as you seen floating stuff in the water.
