I have a trip sometime from now until the end of April, my choice. I was wondering if anyone had been on with them or anyone who goes offshore alot, what would be the best time to go. Just want to have a good time and catch some fish. Any tips? Thanks

PirateofPinns: Yaaaar and a hearty welcome aboard the site me lad.

I have fished Dolphin Dock several times on both short and long range (40 hours) trips. Have had pretty good luck on several trips on board the Dolphin and Dolphin Express. The skippers on both are good, especially on board the D. Express (at least the last time I went). The only issue I have lately with these "head boats" is the need to sink a gaff into virtually everything and the amount of unclaimed fish left at the dock (not trying to start a war with that comment, just my opinion). Hope you have a good time and if you have not already done so, check out their web site at www.dolphindocks.com.

Thanks ranger, I checked their website. We are going to have a bachelor party for a friend and we are going to take a 8-10 hr trip. Hopefully have enough friends go to just try to charter one boat. I am thinking third weekend of April. Thanks for the help and the welcome to the site.

I used to work for Dolphin Dock Charters over last summer. I enjoyed working on the Dolphin Express the most because we brought in the most fish during the 12 hour trips. I would go on a 12 hour with Capt. Tim i think he works Wed through Sun.
I really enjoyed working for him and I might go back this summer if I can.
If you are looking to go on a longer trip, the Dolphin also puts a lot of fish in the boat, but it is the smaller of the two larger boats.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Last Spring I coordinated a trip for a group at work with Offshore Adventures. They needed 12 paid slots for an 8 hour trip. We ended up with a cancelation at the last minute so we each kicked in the extra few dollars and went anyway with only 11 bodies. Made for a great trip, everybody had a limit of Snapper and Atlantic Sharpnose fairly earlyoff a reef, then we went to the rigs and caught a few odds and ends. They did a great job and ggod time was had by all.

P O P ..... Far be it from me to rain on your parade but between now and April is not really a great time to be chartering a party boat for a 10 hr trip. There are several things to consider.

The weather .... weather conditions are pretty marginal at this time of year. You said you've never been out that far on a long trip before. With that I have to assume that some of your friends haven't either. If you catch a calm day, fine, but in rough seas you could end up with a boat full of dead soldiers.

Species...... I'm not sure you really care what you fish for, you didn't say, but at this time of the year the normal target on an 8 - 10 hr trip would be Vermillion Snapper, Sharks and Kingfish. On a 12 hr trip they go further out and there's a chance for a shot at an Amberjack or Wahoo.....maybe Tuna.

The day trips for 8 & 12 hours are done on the Dolphin Express. That is their fastest boat. If you do an 8 hour trip the Tuesday and Thursday trips usually have lighter crowds. But crowds aren't usually a problem at this time. The 12 hr trips are done on Wednesday. That would be my recommendation because you have more fishing time and a shot at more species.

But if you're just going to hang out with your friends most of this is irrelavent. Just go and have a good time. Smile

I've been going out with Deep Sea Headquarters since I was about 11 (26 now). They are an excellent choice. And yes their boats are I believe the fastest around. Also the deckhands are darn good! Smile Smile

Capt Tim on the Dolphin Express, Great skipper, Great combo.

Seas in April, my experience, usually rainy and seasick swells

Good luck! Think Dramamine, Scopace, Patch,Ginger,...suicide Embarassed

I would still go for Capt. Tim on the Dolphin Express. He knows how to put people on fish and if they are not bitting he will move to find fish. He wants fish on the boat just as bad as the fishermen.
He has a son Timmy who is also a Capt., but he deckhands for his dad unless they need him for one of the longer trips.
I think they have one or two ten hours a week, they might be on Thurs. and Sun., or something like that.
Make sure you go when snapper season is open. I think it opens April 21.
I might see you out there!
Goodluck and just ask if you have anymore questions.
