Hey guys,
After considerable thought.....maybe the past 8 years or so since my divorce, I decided to seriously consider moving to the coast so about 2 weeks ago I started to put my resume out there and got a "bite"...actually 3. So I am headed out there on Thursday for 2 interviews and 1 on Friday. 1 of the interviews is for an aircraft parts warehouse inside the base...and the other is in Robstown. I am really really praying for the aircraft one. I am gonna knock their socks off.
Anyways...I just needed to tell share this with some of you guys...I can't hold the excitement in...!!
If I do get something, I plan to sell just about everything I have, except for my fishing gear of course...still debating whether to sell the Yak and get another one later. I don't want to drag all my stuff down there and would like to start fresh. I am 47 and not getting any younger and always wanted to retire at the coast so why not start now, right?...it's not Hawaii but it is my little piece of heaven.
I will probably start to look for a place or something as well when I am down there...get some numbers of some apartments...tho I do need a place that has either a garage or some kind of storage since I do want to take all my tools and outdoor stuff..so any info would be greatly appreciated.
So I am hoping if any of you guys have some spare time....please put in a prayer for me with the man upstairs.... I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks and I will keep you guys updated....and I promise that I will do my part and do my best to make it a better place...

| Congratulations on your new start, good luck on your interviews, and welcome to fishing heaven. I would suggest an apartment locator if you are in fact looking into apartments. The oil boom is making housing hard to come by. |

| x2 on the congrats, and on the apartment hunt. THe same apartment I moved into in 2009 is $100 higher in rent this year, and prices are still rising. |

| Talking about locations......in your opinion...is the Flour Bluff area better than the Corpus area as far as housing or apartments? |

| Thats a loaded question since we are a divided group. I would say price range and availability will be the deciding factor. You are closer to the water in FB but more selection in CC. I think that is safe to say. Either way just a short drive. |

| I need one of those 4 day on/4 day off 12 hour shift jobs out there so I don't have to fully move but still be able to spend plenty of time out that way. I only get to fish maybe once per month and I end up out in Surfside beach more than I do in the CC area. |

Houses, yes. Apartments, no.
Just my opinion. Good luck! _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| Good luck. If you get the job on base, hope you have a high tollerance for laziness and stupidity. |

there are a lot of people trying to get on base and have been for a long time, so if you make it in there, good for you man! it would be very nice for you to live in the bluff considering it is so close to the base. i live in the bluff, have been my entire life and wouldnt live anywhere else. good luck with the interviews! keep us updated _________________ "When times are tough,

Yeah I hear ya... Best of luck in those interviews!
We are going through the same thought process in Austin...... Bought a place down there back in 2007 and spent a couple years fixing it up ourselves. Initially figured on moving down there in 2015-2016 time frame but we keep asking ourselves "why wait?" ....... I can work from home occasionally now so we finally decided that if my wife can get a decent job down there now, I will convince my bosses to let me work from there most of the time and run to austin a couple times a month for a few days at a time.
My wife has just started looking for jobs down there. Got a few leads but finding that the all the tech companies in Austin definitely pay better so it will be a pay cut for her..... Although it will still be worth it once we figure in the cost of living....
So if anyone knows of a company in CC that needs a paralegal/contracts admin/legal sec'y/office mgr/exec admin type let me know.... |

My nephew who currently works at Lackland and is air force reserves assigned to a guard unit here part active duty and part civil servic juts got a job at the base and has spent the week down there looking at housing. have not talked to him so not sure how it has gone but he has little kiddos and schools are a factor for them.
He is psyched to say the least and I am jealous!
Good luck on the job interviews!
I hope to join you very soon as I am getting ready to be in the same boat as you so to speak! |
