RIP to him and prayers for his family from me too! But I have a question, how can you wade fish that far offshore??? Or did you mean 30-40?

Sad news, I was wondering the same thing? I've been lucky this far wading out to the second bar with waders. I took a small tumble the other day attempting to use a cast net. I think I'll be alittle more safe next time round. Prayers sent to the young man and his family.

If you are going to be out in the surf doing any type activity, you need to understand rip currents and know how to deal with them. The life preserver is a great idea too.

http://galvestondailynews.com/story/331442

"Riley Amick, 24, of Pear-land, was wade fishing with a friend and was last seen alive at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday about 300 to 400 yards offshore from Rollover Pass, said John Florence, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office"

I did some wading years ago at the Bolivar Pocket which is similar to the area at Rollover Pass. The water is shallow a very long ways out. Totally different than what you may be familiar with at North Padre or Mustang Islands.

The shelf up the coast extends much further out than it does down here. Growing up in Galveston we usually had to get out to the third sandbar just to find some depth to fish. 300-400 yards sounds a bit far, but I'm not sure it makes much difference, really. Sad story. Hate to hear about this kind of stuff.

This device is a must when fishing the surf, it is simple to wear and easy to deploy.
I know its a fanny pack Laughing but at least it will save your life.

Prayers go ot for his family. You can't be careful around our passes. Wear a PFD and save your life. I have pulled a couple of people out at SLP over the years.
One was drunk, the other poor judgement. People need to do thier drinking after they come out of the water.
