I heard of a young girl from SA being hit by a prop - anyone know what happened?

She was thrown from the boat and subsequently run over. She was killed as a result of injuries from the prop.

SAN ANTONIO -
KSAT has learned the identity of a San Antonio teen killed in a deadly boating accident in Aransas Pass.

Aransa Pass police said 16-year-old Kali Gorzell, a Smithson Valley High School student, died in that accident.

Aransas Pass police say Gorzell and her family were out on the water Friday when she fell out of the boat and was hit by the propeller.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she passed away.

Police and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Marine Department are investigating the accident.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

I mean did she fall off front, were they driving recklessly.... I'm just trying to increase my knowledge for safety.... just seems hard to fall of side and get sucked under while running straight.

No offense to anyone that knew her or the family.

the initial report that came out was that the boat "sheared" and she was tossed out...

meaning, a tunnel hull boat, swapped ends, she was thrown out.

Just reported on the news. The boat operator made a hard turn that threw the girl overboard. Treated as an accident pending blood test. Shocked

I heard the boat was an Explorer. Not 100% sure, but if it was, it's no suprise that she was thrown overboard while making a turn. Those hulls are notorious for that.

I don't believe the boat was an explorer. However, it was of the same hull design as an explorer. It was only 16-17 foot in length. The boat said Rockport on the side of the console, with no other markings on the boat other than the TX numbers.

Very terrible accident, and some visions that will stay with me as long as I'm alive.

Please be safe on the water folks.

I am not in any way making judgment on this accident. It just seems to that accidents in general can be avoided.

The people in that boat are likely grieving in ways we don't even want to imagine. Not to mention the rest of the family.

can anyone find a video of this type of thing happening? My fishing buddy has an Explorer and I just wanted to see how that hull reacts.

Those hulls will chine walk badly to begin with, and when taking a hard turn have the tendency to "dig in" which often results in passengers being thrown overboard. Sorry no video, just personal experience to go on.

I have had this happen twice, both times were when the motor
was raised with jack plate to run skinny then making a mild turn,
it is violent, ALLWAYS lower the motor before making any turns. I have
one of the original (1995) Maverick Redfisher, very similar to Mosca.
