Cool video. they can be harder to sight cast than a redfish, easier spooked, unless you carry shrimp, in my opinion.

If you use a fly rod --
They are complete suckers for a small black or dark colored spoon fly.
I would imagine the result would be the same with conventional tackle and a dark spoon.

Well done. Thats about the ratio with those guys - I see 7 tails, get one to take a hook. Frustrating but rewarding when you finally trick one. Great video as always.

About a month ago I sightcasted a limit of drum in about a hour or so. The gulps work very well. The main thing is to NOT line the fish. Get a heading on them, throw past them, and work the bait right up to their nose within a few feet. They will charge it, let it drop, and just wiggle it a little. Same thing with reds. And when wading, be super quiet. I got so close to a few drum that I could almost reach out and touch their tail with the tip of my rod.

Yes FD! I have done that too! One time I got the drum to hit a little black 1/8 ounce Johnson Silver Minnow but you really had to stop and dance it in front of them for a while. The little curly tail gulps work even better.

Drum are kinda like pot heads. They just sorta sit there and wait for the food to come and freak out when touched the wrong way with a bait. They dont put much effort into hunting food. Thats why their heads are always burried in the ground looking for little snails and crabs to eat. Open the stomach of a drum, and I betcha theres some snails in it.
