I dont know much about this reel, but I do know its been in the family for decades. My dad has caught many many Gar and other big game fish with it. I just recently opened it up, took it apart and cleaned out years of old built up grease in it. It still works great aside from its blemishes, I think it gives it character. I will be spooling it back up and ready it to battle another big gar. From what I can gather online its a Mitchell-Garcia 600A, made in France. Maybe someone out there might know more about them.

Reel Nice....sorry.

They definitely don't make 'em like they use to. Pros and cons both ways though.

Thanks all, I cherish this reel dearly. As far back as I can remember my dad has used it (he is now 75) for gar fishing and he gave it to me when I bought him a new one. When I opened it up it, all the inerds still looked to be in excellent condition. I took it out last week and it still works great! Unfortunatley there were no gar for miles....lol. If and when I retire it, it will certainly go next to the antiques my wife has gathered in her cabinet she knows how much it means to me. Smile
