Well well well. Sometimes our demons chase us, and sometimes we chase them. Shocked And sometimes we find that the whole time, the demon is ourselves. Shocked Shocked Shocked This past week since coming home, I'd say it's been about equal around this household. I've been dying to get back into the middle of nowhere and get away from about every other human being on this Earth. With obligations keeping me tied up until today, I quickly packed up to stay down till Sunday, and took off, knowing that I would be spending most of my time G'd up in snake chaps and a mile behind the dune line, which was fine with the awful forecast on the NOAA......

Long story short, I've never....ever....ever had to leave out on a beach trip down island and then come back.... Shocked But I tell ya'll what, the weed is so bad, the wind is howling at 40mph, and it's not supposed to let up until at least Sunday. And I don't give a good doggone about the fishing, I've got other things to keep me busy, but I'll be doggoned if I put up with a 40mph norther for 5 days that just so happens to be blowing out of the SE. Billy said don't go....and I think maybe he was right. Cool And he's right....I need to clean out my ears once in a while!!

So I took some pics. And I'm not done. Maybe it's time to get back to my roots, and day trip like I used to. I've got enough questions that bother me so thanks to ole' Louis Rawalt that I probably won't sleep tonight. Thanks Billy for the books. And I tell ya'll what...when you're a mile and half back in behind those dunes, you can just about hear an ant crawl and you realize that you're one step away from becoming a "Naked Indian." Shocked

And you realize....that this is why you came-you want to be one step away from a venomous Massagua in it's mating season at its height of aggression, and a Western Diamondback may be your next eye to eye contact. And you don't care-because you're a man and you have been REMOVED from your roots in nature, and if you're like me, you just darn sure don't freaking fit in around this town so full of people that don't even know eachother. And when that howling wind blows the top of a never before seen dune off and it's scattered into the grass flats below-you realize that once again, you are back where you belong, and you're purpose in life goes no further than the next meal and a place to lay your head for the night.

But before I could head into those places, I finally stopped at Novilla-I've never done so, which is a shame. So off I went!

Wish there was a sign everywhere I go!!

And man....how old do you think this fenceline really could be??

And if you don't know, this is one of the line camps that Patrick Dunn used to round up and keep his cattle every 15 miles, which was as far as they could be driven in one day. If you ask me, it means a place to chill out and get a real bed! (I think??!)

Now, I'm not a rancher, but the construction is pretty cool to me!

And finally! Here it is! The last remaining bunkhouse and corrals....

Look at this....nothing here...but HISTORY.....

The making...the lifeblood....of not only our city....our state....but our COUNTRY....

I wonder if this is what all this looked like 100 years ago??

Chowhall!!!!

And the lifeblood of spring was amazing....

And the loading corral...

Now you all tell me.....how old....how many years....how many setting suns and rising moons has this simple plank seen??? More than you and I and he and she put together and multiplied by three???

I love sights like these....and once again, I love this Island.

And as hoped for-I found the geodetic survey station that I hoped to see!!!!

And as always....I couldn't find the station marker to save my life, only the "witness post."

But 15 minutes later, I found it!!!

1939.....again....wow....

And life was good!

Until this EVIL looking skull!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Who knows what this is??

And these georgeous blooms deserved a photo!! The purple was astounding...

And strangely....as in my January trip....these flowers are/were still blooming!!!! Billy! What are they???

What a beautiful sight...

And I found a shellpile to search....

And lastly, I hit the sight we all love to see! The beach!

And I didn't like what I saw.

And even the birds were hittin it hard...

And I studied my map....for a bit....hoping to get back in behind that dune line....

And I broke out the top secret one as well....because even Naked Indians need help sometimes finding their camps....

And it became time to get after it....

And herein lies the reason certain area are threatened for access....because yet again....certain...individuals need to just get beat down... Evil or Very Mad

And only the breeze could be heard....

And for some reason, I left the snake chaps off, and just HIT it! And while I'm not a fullblooded naked Indian, if I see some, I got 'em!

And a road from 75 years ago called my name, and I followed its "scent."

And I left the camera behind. Because again-some things just can't be shared-they have to be experienced firsthand...as the sweat runs down your forehead, the breeze tugs at your hat, the only sound other than the wind remains your feet scrubbing the vegetation, and you continuously scan the "road" and it's grasses for the next snake that just won't hesitate to nail your @%# like you actually deserve for coming into his domain.

And 5 hours later-I made it back to the beach.

And everything sucked! But hey-I got my normal beach meal out of the deal-albeit a "real" plate! Razz And yes, I read up on sharks while eating!!! And I'm goin back tomorrow! So it's all good in the hood....hope everyone is well, later!

-Colin

Cool pics and story Collin. I went down about 35 miles a few day ago and the weed is worse the farther you go. Looking for some tide runners but, only saw jacks, big stingrays and bull sharks! Have fun out there. Cool

Haha! You're not going to let a little sargassum put a damper on your day, are you?

Good for you bro.

I was out there on 5/22, but rather than doing something constructive when I gave up, I sat on the beach and drank beer.

LOL... Laughing
