Obviously, the difference between live and dead shrimp is so massive as to mean the difference between a stringer full of trout or a bunch of hardheads. But regarding other baits...namely batifish such as mullet, is it the same?
I was wanting to go buy a sack of dead finger mullet to toss off the jetty this weekend in the hopes of snagging a bull red or a shark. Will my dead bait shop fish work, or do I need to lug the aerator down there and get ahold of some live ones? _________________ Stupid things seem a lot smarter while you're doing them. |

| If the water is dirty, dead might outfish live mullet for reds and shark, because of scent. If the water is clear, I'd put my money on live bait. |

| For bull reds my favorite is FRESH cut bait. Whiting, skip jack, mullet, perch or crab. Sharks are the same, FRESH cut bait or whole skip jack, mullet, whiting, sheephead, bonita, jack fish, pompano and stingray. |

Cut bait is best, if it is fresh, for Redfish IMO. _________________ CARPE DIEM |

| You have to try both. There is no sure fire way to know if live or dead is better. |

| catch your own and kill it if you want dead bait. Thats my 02.... Mullet gets mushy after its been frozen and doesnt stay on your hook well. Buy live if you dont know how to use a cast net and live is available. You cant go wrong with piggie perch either if buying live. Piggies over Pinperch any day! |

My feelings exactly. On the latter, I've usually done very well where ever I fish live, 2-3" pinfish. _________________ Dave

I hear neighborhood strays work well this time of year. _________________ Not much motion in the ocean...but hey, I'm the captain! |

Live even in the dirty water, you might not be able to see but the Reds can! |
