After using mono my whole life, I plan on spooling one or two of my baitcast reels with braid.
Do in need to leave some mono backing on the spool before I load the braid?
Also, for standard flats fishing, should I use a flouro leader? If so, what length and pound test?
Thanks in advance! |

| you can leave a little bit of mono on there, or put some tape on the spool so the braid doesn't slip. you just need mono backing to keep the braid from slipping and spinning. Also, put it on as tight as possible to keep it from digging into itself. |

| I use either 20# or 30# FINS on all my in-shore reels. I like to use mono on the spool and then the braid for 2 reasons. 1, as mentioned is slippage. 2, because I'm cheap, is to save money. Mono is cheaper than braid so I put a lot of mono as backing and finish off with braid. Similar to fly reels. As far a leader it's preference. I sometimes use mono and other times flouro. Don't find either had a benefit over the other. Usually use about 18". Used to tie lures directly to the braid, but once again, it is cheaper to replace mono leader when retying, than it is to replace the braid constantly. |

10 and 15 mono is amazing and will handle huge fish...
suffix performance braid is the best i have found
mono gives stretch it will help with unexpected break offs, so will over tying your knots(i use a fish-n-fool knot) i burn my tag end too... _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

I wrap and tie it to the spool then tape it with electrical tape and hold th eline tight when spooling then finish with a 1 foot flouro leader.....
30# Fins wind tamer (pink is the better color )
and 30# flouro tied with a swivel _________________

| I'd say go with 20 lbs power pro. Black swivel and a 18" mono shock leader of about 20 or 30 lbs test is all you'll need. |

| I use 30 on my Curado 100's and 20 on my 50's. I use about 12-18"s of 20lb. Flouro leader. I don't use a swivel unless I am throwing a spoon. I have always tied my PP directly to the spool and have never had it slip. |

| Hey Sean. You'll never go back! You'll feel things you never thought possible and will use a much gentler set with a better hook-up ratio. Let's try to get together this year. |

| suffix 832 is a nice line to try out. i like it much better than power pro, the line feels very smooth and really strong. I also am using the Daiwa samurai braid, its a very thin braid. it does hold up on big fish. 15lbs fluorocarbon works |

Thanks for all the advice. I had found some Cajun braid last time I was at Cabela's.
Mastered the Albright knot to connect mono and braid and hit the backyard earlier this afternoon. I can now feel every bump. Thd kids outfished me on schoolie trout, though. We're finding them on mostly sand bottoms in 3-4 feet of water rather than over grass and potholes.
Rusty, most definitely. Let's fish. |
