I was in the Gonzales County Courthouse researching a tract. I was looking at deeds written in the 1800's. When it was the Republic of Texas.
Last night "How the states got their shapes" was on. and it was about Texas. Very interesting. _________________ SALTYDOG AKA Cliff McKay

AMEN to all of the above!!!!! It may never happen because I'll probably never have the money, but one of my "fantasies" is to have the time and money to travel Texas for weeks and stop and read every historical marker.............................. the place has more per mile than any place else I've ever been, and they're interesting to say the least!!! _________________ Dave

The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am deter mined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country-Victory or Death

Not being rude or incensitive of others, but I really cannot comprehend what it would feel like to not be a native born Texan.
Thank God for all those non-Texans that answered the call and came to the Alamo and helped Texas win its Freedom. _________________ It is impossible to speak in a manner where you can not be misunderstood. |

I used to do that when I was driving truck. Lot of interesting markers. I thought of taking pictures of every one and putting them in a book but never did. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

You guys know that there is a Texas Country Reporter app that shows all the Texas historical markers. That's a very cool thing for people that can't get out and see all of our great state. _________________ Fish On! |

| It is difficult to realize that we have over 8 more months of hot air, lies, posturing and empty rhetoric left in the current political season. So it is always pleasing to look back at the arrival of the Mexican troops in San Antonio de Bexar, 1836, to recall what constitutes meaningful, concise political communication. Upon taking San Fernando cathedral, the Mexican army ran up the red flag of "no quarter" (no prisoners will be taken). The response from Travis in the Alamo - an 18 lb cannonball. Refreshingly brief and both sides understood the other completely. |
