| Since when does a private party sale require an ffl transfer in Texas? Pretty sure we aren't a complete communist state like California. Check the laws again. All it requires is for you to take the money and hand the gun over to the purchasing party. If you are uncomfortable selling it to a person don't sell it to them. If you do sell it and are still worried for some reason simply save any emails, pms, text, or phone numbers for that person and if anything ever came up you can hand that over to the authorities. No need to make something easy difficult. |

| Their are NO laws saying you need to keep any records at all in this state. Although the laws do not require records, it is piece of mind going through an FFL. Also, if you buy and trade lots of firearms it could be construed by the ATF that you are straw selling or acting as a dealer. By going through a dealer this mostly alleviates the problem. Lastly, if someone refuses to go to an FFL for transfer that should be an indicator that you dont want to sell to that person. A gun might pass through 10 people before it ever settles into a safe. A person could be a convicted felon or domestic violence offender and you would never know the difference. Law or not I have come to the conclusion it is not worth my time/peace of mind selling to someone without going through an FFL, unless it is/was a used gun in the first place and I never filled out a form on it... |

| Then there are people like myself who feel that when conducting personal business there should be no reason to cater to the rapidly becoming police state that we live in. An ffl transfer for a personal transaction is arbitrary. Like I said in my original post there is stuff you can do if you are concerned about a transaction without buying into the crap the ATF shovels everyday you can save any contact information and correspondences between yourself and the buyer if you are that worried. A little thing called gut feeling and intuition go a long way. Hell you can even flat out profile in this case. Being able to buy and sell guns at your will in this state is a great freedom and too many people are becoming scared of their own shadows when it comes to enjoying this freedom due to things like "fast and frivolous". We should enjoy this freedom now because despite what you want to believe BOBO and his cronies are doing everything they can to take it away and all 2nd amendment rights. Now don't get me wrong here I am not some anti govt nut job who is going off the grid etc etc. I even work for the govt and I am a veteran of 2 wars serving in 2 different branches. If I can't find a gun I am looking for I will go to a gun store and buy a gun there filling out the 4473 but, if I am buying from an individual why do I want do that? I have even chosen not to buy a gun from an individual because I didn't feel comfortable receiving it from that person. As I said it is an easy process and doing anything more than the exchange of money for the gun and a handshake is ridiculous. Gunbuyer I can kind of see your point but that is an extreme exception to say the least. Good night |

If EXPRESS feels better if the firearm is transferred thru the government with a paper trail then that is his right and there is nothing wrong about that.
Used to be you have to wait three days to buy one but now it is very easy and takes about 5 min to get the government stamp of approval.
However, I tend to agree with CRAZYAL ... I would rather buy a gun from a private party than a dealer requiring the federal paperwork.
Government does what government wants reguardless what the "law" says ... just remember what they did after Katrina ... went around door to door impounding all firearms. _________________ Willee 361-563-1303 |
