I read this "I might even include casting at feeding birds and tossing a lure behind a swimming stingray to catch trout or reds." in this article:

http://www.caller.com/news/2011/oct/30/sightcasting-fishing-from-a-different-view/

I am fairly new to salt water fishing and I had never heard this before.

My question is why would reds and trout follow a stingray?

The only thing that comes to my mind is maybe a stingray stirs the sediment and it uncovers possible food items.

I would like to hear anyone's opinion why.

You're correct, the stingray stirs the bottom up and the reds and/or trout sometimes follow behind them to pick off an easy meal. As the ol saying goes....where there's rays, there's reds.

I once sat in my yak surrounded by a school of skates in Aransas Pass and brought in red after red after red. This was very true that morning for me.
