|
|
Has any one heard of or tried this brand of line?
DAM Tectan Premium Plus Monofilament.
They make it from 2.0# to 44#, I did a comparison on pound test/diameter in incheas
Suffix Seige-#12=.015"
DAM-#26=.0137"
Would this not make for a better tackle set up or am I reading this wrong? The reviews I have read on this line have been all pro and no con. |

Years back when I still used mono (before spectra braids), that was my line of choice. I got it from Cabelas. It's still my opinion that it had more strength and especially knot strength per diameter than any other mono that I ever used. Still, it's mono: stretchy and way bad memory which cause tangles and such.
IF one is going to stick with mono, it's darn fine line! _________________ Dave

Momoi Hi-Catch 12# ......012" dia. It comes in HI-Vis yellow and Low-Vis
Blue/Clear. It's good stuff.
I still use mono for both my personal use and clients, it's very user friendly and has been for me reliable and has a reasonable cost.

As stated, knot and breaking strength per diameter are where Tectan really stands out. As shown here, their 18.9 lb test is SMALLER in diameter than the Capt's 12 lb test!!!!!!
No offense Mike.................. http://www.fishusa.com/DAM-Tectan-Premium-Plus-Monofilament_p.html _________________ Dave

No offense taken.....It's been my experience to use what works in the field and not what works in a controlled enviroment. So I use what works for me and not what someone says works.
Really field testing a product for 15 years is alot better than a controlled test for 15 minutes.
Have a good one.

I totally agree............................. that's why I said what I did, real world experience! I'll be the first to admit that I haven't used every mono out there, but I doubt than anyone else has either. Of those that I HAVE used, well, I've already been there. _________________ Dave

X 2. Momoi is the best all-around mono out there.

Being the curious type, I did some web searches. Although it does sound like Momoi is good stuff (for mono) it also looks like their lines break way higher than the rated strength on the package, not that some others don't. My point? It's easy to have a really strong, high knot strength "12 lb test" when it's not really 12 lb test!

i have fished Berkley big game for over 10 years, as long as you re-spool as necessary or cut away your line as it gets roughed up it is a good choice for your money. i have caught some really big fish on it and still buy it today...Sufix is the best braid but their mono really sucks in my opinion....my 2cents _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

Hey carolina kinger, I only made the post about Momoi Fishing line as something you might want to take a look at. I've been fishing it for a number of years now, both in the Laguna Madre and Offshore(when I go tuna fishing) I've been very pleased with it and only suggest a product that I'm familiar with, that I use and will continue to use. I really don't have an opinion about DAM fishing line because I haven't used it.
Just wanted to give you an option, Momoi does have a smaller diameter and is an IGFA approved fishing line.
I know porkfetus also uses it because we have discussed how pleased we have been with the preformance.
Thought this might help
BTW Roy's keeps MOmoi in stock in 1/4# thru 1# spools.

Thanks Capt. and all else for the info. The main reason I was looking into the DAM line is: I mainly run slide lines for kings from the pier and liked the smaller diameter of the 26# line for my anchor rods. I would be able to get more distance with my anchor and have a higher breaking strength for retrieving my gear. I value all opinions and recommendations from every one who responds to my posts or questions. Thanks a bunch and I'm going to look into the Momoi line as this is the first I've heard of it. |

X3 on the Momoi High Catch
Like you I searched and questioned folks. I decided to check out some line that Momoi makes, High Catch & Blue diamond. I heard and read many folks about these lines. I decided to go with the High Catch, 12, 16, 20, 25. It has very little stretch, ties like a dream and is very tough. Perfect for the surf. I'm really stoked! I fished a couple of weeks back and the only break off I had was from a freakin' pelican flying into my line. I landed a healthy 4ft black tip on 16lb line. No problems. No nicks. I'm going to fish it through Sharkathon so we will see if it keeps up. I got mine here http://www.haddrellspoint.com/. You might be able to get it cheaper else where, becareful the stuff they sell on ebay is not the same "high catch".
I used to fish Big Game and felt like I spent more time cutting and retying than fishing because of scrapes.
I've used almost every type of suffix and hated it. Too way too soft and stretches too much.
Never fished DAM line though, would like to hear how it works for you. |

The small diameter of the Tectan per given REAL breaking strength would mean more line on the spool.................... and darn good plus with a big fish! I have no dog in this hunt either guys. _________________ Dave

I see two routes here:
1) you guys can keyboard-talk-research yourself in thinking one line is better than the other and going with that. or
2) you can ask the opinion of people who have used many types of line on the market, and believe their opinion based on years of using it in the field.
up to you to decide. Ideally, I would like to see you try the new stuff for 5-7 years and let us know how it measures up to everything else out there.
good luck, keep us informed.
