Does admitting to eating hardheads automatically condem a person to Purgatory on this site?
My wife and I don't get to make it down to the coast very often once every two years or so. When we are there we not real picky about what we will fish for or keep.
We seriously cannot tell that much difference in the taste of hardheads and gafftops. Maybe if we lived close enough so that we could fish down there more often, we might change our attitude.
We buy our fishing license like everyone else, spend money for fuel to make the trip down there, spend money for camping fees, off shore trips, bait, tackle etc. etc., yet mention that someone actually keeps and eats hardheads and a person is just as well to have said they were a PETA member and was worrired about the mistreatment of Sea Kittens. _________________ It is impossible to speak in a manner where you can not be misunderstood. |

Never mind the internet fish police. Eat what you want. Not everyone has the same taste buds, not everyone likes to eat the same stuff. Catfish meat all looks the same to me...hardhead, gafftops, channels, blues, flatheads same stuff _________________ -Mando |

x4. My brother in law (newly discovered half sister) informed me that they love to eat mullet. I thought he was pulling my leg (still not 100% convinced), but all my life (long time), mullet's been bait.
To each, his own. Some people eat bugs. |

They serve mullet in 5 star restaurants in florida. They use worms for them. And I bet all of the people that bash catfish just hate them because they are a pain in the a$$! You just have to learn to accept the Corpus Fishing humor. |

eat whatever you want, cooked however you like or eat it raw. those who don't fish, can'catch, don't clean, can't clean, don't cook don't eat but always complain & tell everyone else they are right so you must be wrong.
a bunch of old hags calling each other ugly. _________________ ccbobber |

We grew up on mullet down in Florida, people looked down thier noses at mullet, fresh and salt water cats. But back then they also looked down thier noses at Red Drum, Black Drum and a few others I could name. People up north also looked down upon us for eating alligator. But look at whats on the menus now in a lot of places, and its expensive as well.
If you like them, eat them and enjoy. |

Agreed X10! The "duck snobs" up this way look down their collective nose at eating ANYTHING beside a Mallard, but I know from much personal experience that a coot tastes no different!!!!! _________________ Dave

I think hardhead from the beach might be a bit tastier than the stuff from some stagnant bayou but eat what you want.
Maybe IMS can do a blind taste test at the next fish fry! _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

i think people who are bashing are saying more that there are other species that make better table fare that really aren't too hard to catch.they eat mullet in Florida cause of the white sandy bottom (they are bottom feeders)makes them taste cleaner _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

Not to get off topic, but mullet eat detritus and algae, and algae is algae. Mahi is one stinking fish to clean and also has oily flesh and is one of the finest eating fish in the oceans!
Just because people do something in one part of the country that others don't doesn't make either group right or wrong or the topic at hand (how good a fish tastes) any different from place to place. Some are simply ignorant of the facts because of what their fathers and forefathers told them. Case in point: "once a spike ALWAYS a spike", which is pure BS and hogwash!!!!! Ignorant is NOT a cuss word or a dis, it simply means "lacking knowledge or understanding of the topic being discussed". And I'm NOT calling anyone out here, so don't get in an uproar, just stating a fact! _________________ Dave

I'd be more inclined to believe that the hydrocarbons in the water may be at fault. Mullet eat scum and algae from the rocks, pilings, bottom and such and there has to be some hydrocarbon content there, especially the algae on the rocks that closer to the surface where the hydrocarbons tend to settle. _________________ Dave
