Just curious if anyone else uses their fly rod with 10 pound mono leader and a regular hook with bait.

As kids in the early 70's we fished fly rods we got from Shoppers World. We used a 12 lb yellow stren leader and treble hooks with live shrimp we caught with our seine net. We had a blast catching 12 and 14 inch specks on that light rig. Road our bikes to OSO bridge just about every Saturday morning and waded all over the place. I bet there are still some of my tennis shoes out there in the muck.

I'm not a "purist" either. I used to fish off a dock in Bayou Vista (near Galveston) during the shad run, using a fly rod and live shad caught in a cast net. Caught one of my biggest specks(27-1/2") that way, plus many more.
