Just put mine in the shop at South Texas Trolling motors. Those guys have always done me good, and it's still under warranty. The problem is not an isolated one after reading reviews. The reason I took it in is because it started shutting down after running at high speed for a couple of minutes. I thought it to be a breaker but no it's the trolling motor itself.
Does anyone here on the board have the new digital varimax. I also read reviews where the Varimax did just the opposite and would not shut off at all unless disconnected from the battery. Anyway back to mine, when it cools down it fires right back up , to hot it shuts down. We will see. It is a Motorguide problem. Well here it is a few years later and it's been in the shop about 5 or 6 times. it keeps breaking down. piece of crap. guess i'll buy another piece of crap maybe it will be a better piece of crap. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED.

Stan, the problem is in the controller switch, something to do with manufacturing. No sweat the guys will fix you up. I had the same promblem. It's like there is a bad ground wire and it's overheating.
Fixed mine in a couple of days with new controler. No problem since.
see ya

it's a maufacturers problem. Lots of Varimax owners are experiencing the same problem. It's new, it's digital. Motroguide should let us Laguna Madre fishermen test their motors. Warm waters, lots o grass, hot air temps, super saline conditions, choppy waters, flat bottom boats. Its a real testing enviroment here. They probably test them in a cool barrel of fresh water. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| I still want one of the trolling motors that have the built in GPS that acts like an anchor - keeping you in one place. I can't afford a power pole. |

Yes sir these thing are advertised as a all in one. Wonder how they would
hold up in a Texas wind on Baffin.
Kinda expensive? At least for me.

Holy expensive anchor batman! I could buy 3 regular trolling motors, and 1 extra to use for an anchor. Plus buy a separate gps for when I get lost in the lagoon. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
