I was taking a walk around Academy today and came across the Taurus 609b and was wondering if anyone has any experence with this pistol. I am looking for a smaller carry pistol and unless I can get a super deal on a good 1911 that I can slowly fix up. The Taurus is going for 349 regularly 499.
Any info good or bad or if anyone has seen a good deal on a carry size 9mm pref. under 400. New or used.
Thank you for reading this and have a great day. P.S. I want a semi auto but if its a good deal I would look at a revolver.

Thanks again and hopefully I will get to visit the coast in the next week or so to inject some money into your econamy and fish in my cooler.
Mike

Personally I would go with the Taurus 24/7 semi-auto in 45acp, or as a second choice in 40 S&W. Both are available from http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ for $299.00. They also have the 9mm for the same price, but personally I think 9mm is more of a girls caliber. Most cops and law enforcement won't have it any more - too weak. Great gun for the price. Also available in compact version (great for carry) for same price.

Rodandroll, Have you ordered a pistol from them before? Thank you for the gun advise. They have great prices just wondering if you have dealt with them before. Thanks, Mike

As a retired Army veteran you might qualify for the discounts I listed on th previous post about concealed carry. Pay the extra 100.00 and get a better quality firearm! I agree 45acp rocks. .40 is great too but I dont like non military cartridges.

Yes, I have ordered several guns from them and never had a problem. Great people. Check them out, they have an excellent reputation. They are a Texas company in Abilene.

I am a veteran also, but that does not make me an expert in guns. The last 30 years as an avid collector does. Many people seem to think the Taurus is somehow an "inferior" gun. They could not be more wrong. The quality of the Taurus equals that of any American gun maker. The reason Taurus is cheaper is because it is made in Brazil and they don't have the liability and other problems American gun makers have. Brazil actually welcomes the gun industry - what a novel concept. I personally own a Kimber 45, 2 colt 1911 45's, and a Taurus 24/7 compact 45. The Taurus is equal to any of the others, and much easier to carry.

I have a limited experience with taurus. I have shot 3 that I can think of off the top of my head. Two of which were no good. The 24-7 .45acp jammed every few shots and was sent back to taurus 2 times and never got fixed. I have shot the JUdge, what a piece of crap that was. Disappointing becuase I bought it for my Dad for Christmas. That pistol is the only revolver I have ever pulled th trigger on and watched nothing happen... I recycled that piece of ammo in the gun and it went off.........................
The raging bull shot nicely.

I am by no means an expert. I would be willing to bet I know more than most people but definitely No expert. I know gun values and what guns hold there value and Taurus do NOT. If you look around long enough you can get one cheap cheap cheap. As a matter a fact I bet I can get you the 24/7 45 for 200.00 from a buddy. Buyer beware it doesnt work right!!!

Get whatever pistol you want it is all preference. But why cheap out and then have to buy something else doubling your investment and time. Buy it right the first time and maybe Taurus will work great for you... Some of there guns must work otherwise they wouldnt be in business!!!

My goodness, every Taurus you have ever touched had major issues. How strange? Sounds really suspicious to me. Do you think the gun gods had it in for you when you got near a Taurus or was it just a chemical reaction between you and the guns that made them fail.

I have never had a problem with any Taurus I have owned, and I have 4 of them right now. Your experience must be one of those one of a kind "internet" related experiences.

You know - I really don't appreciate people who call things they don't like "piece of crap", "cheap, cheap, cheap", "cheap out", etc... All if really does it tell everyone that their argument isn't very effective so they have to bolster it with trash talk. It also tends to show the mentality of the writer and generally denigrates them more that what they are trying to trash. Please keep the negative adjectives, negative remarks, name calling, etc.. to yourself. If you have a specific experience, by all means talk about it, but don't go on a name calling, generalizing tirade just because you personally don't like something. It isn't very becoming.

Oh shucks - forgot about the raging bull - my bad!

First off I want to thank everyone for thier advise. I didn't mean to start a fight about which firearm maker is better. I was just looking for a compact at a good price that me or my wife can carry.
I have had no problems with the Taurus brand and that is why I wanted to get one. Most of my experience with Fail to extract is the round is the round in that firearm not the firearm. A loaded cartridge from any manufacturer is made to work with as many guns as possible. that is why I hand load so I get what is perfect for my weapons.
I am personally a 9mm guy. It is a great cartridge when you get away from the FMJ that the geneva convention make our soldiers use.
Like I said These are my opinions and worth what you paid to see them.
Thanks again for the help and after I throw some roounds downrange in the next couple weeks I will give a report.
V/R
Mike

The above is my experience with Taurus. I can get you the one that doesnt work cheap 200.00 if you like them soo much and you question my integrity. I am telling you it doesnt work. This is an edit " I just talked to my buddy and he said Taurus will take it back again and give him a new gun in return at this point. He is an oil field worker and hasnt gotten around to it yet. But I can borrow his pistol and we can shoot it together!!!

Also, the one I got my Dad doesnt work properly. Like I said it is the only revolver I have ever seen not set off a perfectly good round. Maybe the round was faulty but it shot the second time either way I blame the gun. It seemed to have not struck the primer hard enough and I only hav put 30 rounds through that gun. Who knows what it will do over time.

I have plenty of firearms that work and I am no expert in regards to any of them I just know in my limited experience Taurus and I dont work very well together. I am only stating my opinion and I am sorry if it offended anyone. If someone asks my opinion I will give it take it or leave it. At this point in time I have no stock in SWHC and I will not benefit from anyone purchasing anything from anyone!!!!

I would always recommend to anyone if they were going to buy something dont cheap out. Get a good deal yes, but dont buy an inferior product to save money. I do recommend some off brand guns but only because I have had great experiences with them I have had poor experiences with Taurus. As I stated in my last posting the majority of them must work well because otherwise they wouldnt be in business....!

I personally havent heard of any military or law enforcement using them and I have only seen one in a competition. That doesnt mean they all dont work but it shows they havent been adopted yet and there may or may not be a reason for that. If they work for you then GREAT!!!!

Now if I could just get you to upgrade to 45ACP then you would be shooting a real man's gun. Mr. Green !!

I believe there's a gun show in Robstown this weekend. Would be a great opportunity to compare pistols of various manufacturers. I agree that you should never buy a "cheap" pistol . . . . unless you put no value on your life. Taurus have come a long way in the last ten years, but I still don't think they compare with Colt, S&W, Kimber, Ruger, Glock, and others. Bottom line, get what works for you - feels right in your hand and is priced right. Enjoy!

Laughing i like .45acp but i got shot in the neck with a .38 special lost some mobility, i like my high capacity low recoil easy to shoot 9mms. if .45acp drops in price i just might have to get one it is however a little too much recoil and expensive for me at the moment Cool
