On the waters, NO.
In the waters, yes. The jetties are full of purple sea urchins (more properly, rock boring and reef urchins, of the genus Echinometra), in addition to the pencil urchins (Eucidaris sp.). They are more common deeper, so the Port A jetties typically have more that either Fish Pass or Packery.
Offshore, you can also find long-spine urchins (Diadema antillarum) on some of the deeper rigs. Heart urchin tests wash ashore occasionally, but I have never come across a live one here locally, but the are pretty common on the fore-reefs in the southern part of the Gulf. |

I've had the roe, but it's not what I would call sushi-grade.
It's not bad, but not quite the same texture and taste that you get with quality Uni.
The only limits are from Nov 1st - Apr30th, down around South Padre (dam$ Snow Birds!!! ) |

Thanks,
Port Mansfield Jetty is where I have seen lots of them and wondered about the roe. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |
