A buddy of mine and I went out @ 8:00 this morning for a quick wade before classes. The wind was about 14mph SSE and the water was crystal clear, so we were able to use topwaters in the shallow water. There was nervous bait everywhere, so we knew it would be a fun day! We both fished bone-colored topwaters early (I fished a Spook, my friend threw a Badonk-a-donk), and found immediate action on the north side of the bay. Together, we landed 7 redfish from 18-25.5", and a bunch of dink trout. After a lot of fun in the middle of the bay (about 3.5 ft of water), we moved back into the skinnier water and started sightcasting. I threw the new Reaction Strike Diet Mullet in glow/chartreuse, and picked up two more reds and two quality trout (the bigger trout was 22"). My buddy got another keeper trout, and another red. We ended the day with a double limit of reds and 3 keeper trout (we only kept reds over 22", so that's why there are only 5 reds pictured). Fish fry tonight!

Thanks for the report. Did you guys run into the skipjack? We were in that neck of the woods this morning too, and they were EVERYWERE. We did manage to find the reds and the trout, but it was about 3:1 ladyfish. It was sure fun though. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

@ltorna1:
Yeah, skippies were EVERYWHERE. We were dealing with them all morning too, and removing a treble hook from a flailing skipjack is not my favorite thing to do. The good news was that when we found the skipjack, the redfish and trout were usually close by. Where where you guys? |

| Nice report, flats. Was thinking about going there today but got to playing in the flats on the west side of the ICW instead. No reds, just trout and skippies. |

Nice report, and congrats on a good day!
I'm typically an artificial guy by preference, but that skipjack makes good redfish cut bait. |

Very nice report. And braving the wind to boot. Now, did you ever make it to class? _________________

chuck never missed lab for fishing, and he even bought the lab instructor a pumpkinseed-chartreuse kelly wiggler. Brown nose. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

@zia: we fished the flats west of ICW and caught reds on the holo pink Reaction Strike. We didn't find any trout though! "Redfisheringman" and I will be in Nighthawk again tomorrow morning, maybe we'll see you out there?
@Chef Lefty: thanks, and yes i did make it to class. Barely. I might not have been the best smelling guy in the room, but I was there. From the sound of things, I think a lot of you guys have been in my boat! |
