Around 4-10 people and I are looking for someone to take us deep sea/snapper, tuna, wahoo, etc. fishing between March 17th and 20th from Port Aransas. Would like to catch sharks too, but thats not really a must. What do you get out of the deal? Whatever you want really, just let us know your demands and we can see if we meet them. Obviously we would pay for gas, bait (tell us what to bring), and beer if you want it. If you dont want people drinking on your boat, thats okay too, its your boat right! We are in the age range of 23-26, and have done the drunken spring break thing and are not really into that anymore. Want to catch lots of big fish, and have a good time. Our budget puts us in a price range of roughly $20-60 a person, but all offers are welcome. Take us fishing...Please! You wont regret your decision. We are responsible, and fun to be around. Email me at mike1985morris@gmail.com or you can call/text me at 214-668-9970.

At $20-$60 a person, I can wholeheartedly recommend a fun-filled day of fishing on the Island Queen, where you will visit lovely places such as the end of the north jetty, Brown and Root docks, and the Lydia Ann Channel!!!
Even paying for the gas, charter prices for an offshore trip going after the species you are interested in are way more than what you have quoted.
Good Luck. |

Thank you for your advice, Ill have to check that out. We could probably stretch our budget to $75 a person, if that would even make a difference. Mainly Im looking to catch some delicious fish that are out of range from our surf rod/kayak rigs. It sounds like I might just go to the docks and buy them off a boat, instead of being able to catch them myself. |

My first reply was a bit in jest, but in reality, that's a TALL order for a crew of 10 that has the amount of cash you mentioned. Those are all very different fishing techniques, and while most charter boats would be able to accommodate (if the captain is worth anything), pulling all that together in a day trip could be difficult. Plus, most charters are limited to 6 paying customers, unless you plan on renting out a "headboat" (which can handle upwards of 100, depending on who you use), and that would definitely bust your budget to charter any of the local vessels for a "private" run.
Also, on top of all that, snapper season does not open until later in the summer, so you can't fish for red snapper, but you could always haul in a limit of beeliners (vermillion snapper) and lane snappers instead.
One last word of advice on your quest, March is notorious for wicked winds and rough seas, so the best laid plans right now may turn out to be "an adventure to remember" based on conditions 2 weeks from now. Like the line from "Ren and Stimpy", Maybe something good, maybe something bad,..... we just don't know!

The unrealistic nature of this endeavor is becoming clear now. "Trimming the fat" off of the group down to say 6 would be possible. Mainly we are just looking to haul in some good eating fish, and have a little fun in the process instead of just going and buying them. I understand those are all different fishing techniques, I just named them all because any one of them would be fun, and I didnt want to limit the responses to just one type. I could definitely limit our group to 6 people if that is what it takes to get me out on the water. Im the one doing all the searching anyways right... But yes I could drop the group down to 6 at a max of $75 a person. And if I have to, I could even cut the group down to 2 people, I really dont care, as long as I get out on the water. Ive been up in Montana for the past 3 years ripping lip, and suffice it to say I have a hunger for something bigger than a 26" brown trout. |

As they mentioned you are pretty much limited to the head boats such as our sponsor Deep Sea Headquarters or something like the Island Queen.
It will cost at around 85 for Deep Sea HQ for the 8hr trip. Lots of fun however and you can go with as many that want to go if they have the funds and the boat has room. |

That looks like our best bet so far. The price is fine for me, but as far as everyone else, not so much... Thanks for your response! |

Here is one word of 16 year old knowledge that could be used with one person or 100. Get a small bass rod and some 8-10 lb line and some of live shrimp and fish rocks. Any rocks should be good at this time of year for some darn good eating sheepshead. Especially if you are using very light tackle. I realize that this isn't what you are looking for but I can promise that it's better than the Montana trout. The port aransas harbor, fish pass, packery or port a jetties should be pretty good. And you could always use a mullet or dead shrimp in the surf for the rod bending drum, red or pompano! Good luck,
Zack! |

Thanks Zack! You think I could sub the bass rod with an 8wt fly rod with the same line and bait? That sounds pretty fun. Some in our group have surf rigs, and will be going for the big reds. Also, whats a good way to season sheepsheads for the grill? Would the standard salt, pepper, lemon combo do the trick? |

Well as far as the fly rod goes, I don't think so because the shrimp might come off since they are pretty delicate but I'm not 100% on that one. And as for the sheepshead, I would use anything spicy since I'm a cajun but that's just me. Something good would be a salt and pepper, garlic powder and some type of season salt blend mixture. I would make a foil "boat" and put some butter over the fish and cook it on the grill that way. But that's just me. I hope everything works out. And one other thing, you don't have to have a boat or a yak or be on one to catch good fish. I have caught plenty of reds/sharks/specks in the surf and those are just a few of the pretty much endless species of fish the Texas part of the gulf has to offer. Good luck,
Zack |
