Well, we did our February trip over President's Day weekend. Hit the beach early Friday morning at low tide and made it down to the mid-twenties. Had the GP Medium and M1948 mess tent more or less set up by noon, with rods in the water. Friday and Saturday provided nothing but whiting (dozens of them...many 15+ inches) and a stray Pomp here and there.
As with all our trips there are two highlights: the fish.... and the FOOD. Saturday morning we had rib eye's with jalepeno bacon, eggs and tortillas. Saturday evening was rabbit stew. Sunday morning we had fresh, fried corn tortillas with eggs, onion and yes, cream cheese (holy cow was it good). And so on... and so forth....
The bite on Sunday hit in a span of about an hour in the afternoon. Nick stopped by and handed off his shrimp. I swear he made the offer just to show us what he had in his box (full of black drum, pomps and a couple reds). He swore it was "just the bait...."
Turns out, he may have been right. My next four casts-- in the span of about 20 minutes-- landed three reds (23, 25 and 25), and a nice black drum (23). It was so crazy that while I was gutting and gilling the first two reds (hands slimy and bloody), my rod went off again... and my son reeled in his first red (the 23).
All in all, was a great trip. The surf was fairly clear Friday and Saturday, and murky Sunday and Monday. No weed at all. And plenty of fish to be had-- we went home with two ice chests full of black drum, whiting, reds, pomps and even a couple golden croaker.
Cant' wait for Spring Break!!! Of course, I'll be cleaning all of my gear until then.... _________________ Fish ON! |

| Hope I can have near that success manana. Will be hitting the 20. Did recon north of Packery today and weeds were 1-2 ft high and 6' wide. I'm hoping for better conditions in the morning. |

| I enjoyed the report. I was glad yall caught a bunch of fish and had some fine dinning on the beach. I went to a Chili Cook Off on the beach and set out some lines. and all I could catch was hardheads. |
