I cleaned out my fuel filter because of some idling issues, and there was a handfull of what appeared to be glass shards. They were red and looked and felt like glass. As soon as the gas dryed off of them you could squeeze them and they turned to powder. Anyone know what this is? Boat is running fine since I cleaned the filter.

Why not just change the filter? Sounds easier....unless I am just missing something...and I miss alot.

I did change it out, but I have never had this stuff in my filter before. I just wanted to know if anyone had seen something similar, and knew what it was.Worried that it might be a problem in the future.

If you have a fiberglass tank it may be resin from it due to ethanol. I've got a poly tank and the ethanol ate my fuel hose pretty bad.
