Optomist here. I think alot of what they are seeing is snook, snapper and tropical fish which have invaded over the last 5 years of unseasonable warm waters in all the bays. In 89 we had temps for extended times in the teens, not so this go. Tommorow we will see daytime temps in the upper 50s and 60s on Sunday with lows in the mid 40s. We will lose some trout in some areas but I am hopeful it won't be bad. Fingers crossed but at the end of the day mother nature is the boss.

I'm incline to agree with you, I just took a drive out here in the development, Padre Isles around the White Cap main canal. Nothing stunned or floating (yet).
I lived out here durning the '89-'89 freeze, we had alot of stunned and floating fish by now. Not to say it's not going to happen but I sure would like to see some sunshine in the next couple of hours.

On a real sad note...there are alot of (most) if not all the tropical plants and trees that are going to take a big hit....

Temp here is 21 but sun is out. I can see water dripping off the roof. Hope it gets to you soon if it's not already there. Supposed to get up to 40's today, we'll see. Tomorrow we should be out of the woods here as far as air temps. City is shut down. All freeways closed.

It sounds like the TXDOT folks don't know what in the hell is going on. 32 degrees has nothing to do with bad roads. Some IR energy still gets through the overcast and heats asphalt (and to a lesser extent concrete because it's a lighter color) enough to melt off most ice and snow, AS LONG AS you're not having heavy precip.

It's snowing here as I type and 28 degrees, with maybe an inch or more on the ground so far. There is NONE on the road in from of my house.

Having said all of this, closing things down may be wise for the simple reason that people who never drive in snow and ice have no freaking business being out driving in it!!!! It only takes one moron to jam up the works, and there you go......................

saw it last night on yorktown bridge (mud bridge). freaking morons hit a patch of ice and had a little fender bender. bastages get out of their vehicle without moving it off the side so people can get by. clogged both lanes, east and west bound. standing there as the roads ice over staring at their little ding on their vehicles. yorktown was a parking lot last night because of one moron. they rerouted SPID through the bluff and yorktown was backed up solid both ways from Rodd Field to Flour Bluff drive. Shocked

ONE moron. idiots. makes me want to drive a big truck with a pipe bumper just for occassions like that Twisted Evil

Right now there's no ice or snow to speak of on our highways yet one lone idiot driving an 18 wheeler has I 30 blocked down by Benton and traffic backed up for miles............................... Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Our last snow a few weeks ago had the same thing happen at the same location and some folks actually spent the night in their cabs and cars, going nowhere, with the engine and heater running for 13 plus hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Didn't mean to get off topic here. Embarassed

Good deal. Let us know what you find out on your ride around. I am thinking about heading south to the cut for a look around tomorrow, but if someone has already made the trip, I would like to save the time.
