Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should be SHOWTIME for all the cold weather big girl grinders. Just hope mother nature does not have a fish kill on her agenda! _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

Currently water temps are around 60 (59 -60) in the ULM, ICW and Baffin.
I think it might take a longer freeze time. I would be worried if the water temps were in the low 50's. Alot of the trout & redfish have already made their way to the deeper waters for the winter.
I think we'll be OK.....

Bird Island is in about 3 foot of water east of the ICW about 50 feet from the drop off to the channel. Sensor is 1 foot off the bottom.
Rincon has about the same setup but is closer to the ICW, about 15 feet from the drop off. |

| Hey, Lefty, it's always shorts weather. Being a coach for 35 years that's my entire wardrobe. |

27 degs at my house this morning at 0400 as I was leaving to work. Tonite I will have to leave the outside water moving faster as the spigots froze up with a steady drip going. Maybe I will turn on the sprinkler and make an ice scene tonite. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

27.3 degrees with a wind chill of 12 this morning in my back yard, which might be warm compared to the next couple of days. You might consider doubling up on the shorts.
On a more serious note, do you think the T.I. canals are going to have a repeat of last year? Here was a comment from Alex Nunez at the Fish and Game kills and spills section of TPW:
In regards to the fish that were killed during the cold weather in January 2010 when the water in Packery Channel went below the 42 degree tolerance level for the dominant species. They fell to the bottom of the canals,
and then as the water warmed, gasses from decomposition filled their body cavities they rose to the surface. As they continue to decompose they released nutrients into the water for the algae and the other fish, all part of
cycle of a healthy ecosystem.
Maybe healthy, but pretty ugly for a while. _________________

Funny thing. Their eyes freeze first. If you decide to pick up fish for consumption make sure the gills are red if the gills have started turning pink leave them. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

But if you do take the ones with pink gills, make sure to cook them thoroughly, I believe 145 degree internal temperature will do it. If you aren't sure, ask any game warden. _________________
