I have a 145 lb pound red belted cross to show for the williamson county livestock show and I was wondering Any tips for him to gain weight. Also do y'all know any close places close to Austin to have him slaughtered and how much it might cost? Thanks,

| That wasn't a crack. I was wondering if I should or should not do that. I have plenty of respect for my elders. |

Don't feed it domestic beer. Not enough calories. Ale or lagers only. _________________

So when is the pig pickin As far as the beer, something I learned in ag class about a hundred years ago. That some hog raisers used left over beer and brewing products for increased weight gain in hogs. I know it works just drive around the Bluff and look at the size of some of the RATZ we have walking the streets. Looks like buffalo on the great plains. Just thinking about it makes me want to watch Dances with Wolves. We have major tatankas, and I'm sure its all from beer products. And the answer to your question....Yes there may be a bit of sarccasum in my voice, I tend to refer to it as wit. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED.

Back when I lifted weights, we used Weight Gain 2000. They packed 2000 calories in a single serving shake. The stuff helped me put on nearly 100 lbs of muscle in 1 year. (How I got the nickname Big John)
Problem is, if you stop lifting weights 2 to 3 hours everyday, it heads south and lodges right in the middle.
Try a google search for wight gainer. I am sure they still make the stuff and are probably way over 2000 calories a serving now. I am sure it will put weight on your hog. |

talk about itching.... lol the only itching I have is the itch to go fishing. I have actually accomplished this surgery without the use of pain meds, Ibuprophen has been my main go to. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

First off, how many days to the show and what is the bottom weight for the show? Is this your first time to raise show pigs? What type of show feed are you feeding and what is the protein percent? Are you feeding any additives along with the feed? Most feed stores will help you if your Ag Agent or 4-H leader won't. You have to be very careful when pushing a show pig because some high protein additives can burn the pigs stomach and it will stop eating all together.. Some exercise will increase its appetite as well but you don't want to run the pig just a steady walk for at least 45 min. to an hour a day.. If your weight gain is correct, then the pig is averaging around 5 lbs a day, I don't think you will get much more than that unless you use additives.
