Although stunts like this look real cool on face value they are actually pretty stupid. Many who try things like this get into trouble, and somebody has to go out and rescue them.
I make my living as a ships officer and I've more than once people get in trouble on the water. Usually, it's people who try something like crossing the Atlantic in their 32' sailboat get halfway across and find out it was more than they bargained for. I can recall one night a women called us on the VHF several hundred miles east of Bermuda in nasty weather very scared and wanted to know if we could stick around. I asked if they were in distress, if so then we would be obligated to render assistance. Since they were not I had inform them that we had a schedule to keep and could not have our ship sit around until the weather abated and they were no longer scared. I guess they made it all right because we monitored the Marine Safety Broadcasts closely until the weather laid down.
Same thing goes for those who sail "singlehanded". Since everyone needs to sleep sometime, this violates the first rule of seamanship...namely the requirement to keep a lookout.
Anyway, just my $0.02 worth. |

I see the funding for the movie fell a little short. Just wonder how they got enough fuel on that boat to make the trip? _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

that could be a nice trip, especially if you had enough funds to stay in some lodges along the way, get a hot shower and good food.
it would be cool if you had a few months or a year to do it right |

These days of "reality" BS give me a rash........................... Someone was taking video of them from OFF their boat which means that for at least some of the trip that had support. If you have support you don't have to worry about carrying enough fuel, water, food, medicine, spare engine parts, etc.
Likewise, if it really gets bad OR the boat that you're on sinks, you're not stuck on that boat or bobbing in the ocean waiting for rescue or to be eaten........... which ever come first, you just step onto the floating Holiday Inn that's following you!!! BS!!! _________________ Dave

Did you see that enormous fuel tank running down the side of the boat? I didnt catch if they had one on both sides or not but they had a ton of fuel on board. I am wondering how they stayed afloat when those tanks were full?! _________________

Gas is lighter than water. The floats on float planes doubles as fuel tanks.
One BIG problem on a small boat or airplane is trying to carry enough fuel for the trip. There comes a point when the plane won't get airborne and even if it does, burns far more fuel because of the power/speed needed to STAY in the air. An overloaded boat burns way more fuel too, especially if trying to stay on a plane.

Read on website they carried over 350gl fuel on board. Dunno range, but its a long ways in a 4-stroke. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

Gas is less dense than water making it "lighter". It also helped them dive to the bottom of the Marianas trench. The fuel tanks were in the boat not outside. Still a lot of extra weight in a flat-bottom boat!! 350 galsX ~6lbs/gal= ~2100lbs. _________________
