Vandals cut the wire on my fish-finder that runs from the instrument down the outside of the transom to the transducer. Anybody know if I can splice the cut - or maybe replace the wire and transducer ?? Its a good little "bottom-finder" and I dont want to spend the money to replace the whole thing if I dont have to. As to the kid that did it, I'm sure his daddy would have raised him better - but no one has any idea who the man was .

The plug end of my wire from my transducer deteriorated and fell apart from the Tx heat and sun and I was told I would have to buy a new transducer with new wire and plug($69 on a $99 fishfinder). My hardly ever used fish finder is still in it's box in the closet.

I tried splicing and unit did not work well. I'm afraid you might have to get a new cable like FBPhil said.

you'll be much better off in the long run replacing the cable, its possible that a splice can be made . When Mr. corrosion comes around he will go for the splice first. If the connection is soldered or crimmped correctly , conductivity will be good. If the connector is 10 - 15 bucks give it a good try. If its half the price of a new cable........new cable. Have a good one. Very Happy

It can be spliced as some have said, if you do it correctly (solder and heat shrink) it will work. you may see ghost images after completion as the splice may reflect signal. Corrosion can be "postponed" at best.

Don't know how your boat is rigged but just getting the old cable out and the new in sometimes can be challenging if bundled in conduit under the flooring. you will want to be careful not to damage any other wires or hoses in the conduit. I would use the old cable to pull the new cable thru if you choose to replace the cable. Use pull jelly so as not to stretch the new or bind and damage others in the run.

If it doesn't work I am using I think it is the eagle from academy for $79. It works well even at highway speeds.
