Went out this late-afternoon to try and continue what has been a great evening trout bite this month. Well....the bite is still hot as hell.
Hit the water at 5:30, paddled out to the mouth of the canal, again...same routine as last, through a topwater, first cast, spook jr gets knocked 3 feet clear of the water. Give that spot a 2 minute break and then cast again, 20 inch trout. Noting after that in the canals.
Paddled out to my honey hole and started catching trout immediately on the swim-shad. Landed a total of 18 more trout. Not a ton of monsters but they were hungry and it was a ton of fun. Strung 2 more keepers both 17", and then right before the ambient light faded and the sun was completely below the horizon, I get a monster bite. After losing the red last time around my pvc stake pole, this time I decide to pull the pole up and go for a bit of a sleigh-ride. Thought it was a slot red, but after fighting for a bit was pleasantly suprised by a FAT trout.
Put her on my measure stick, which only goes up to 24 inches (cheap plastic rapala one), and she was well over that, I guess about ~26 inch.
Took a few quick pics on my phone's camera, and then revived her and back into the soup she went.
All in all, a fantastic trip. Back at the dock by 8:30.
Get her landed...
Keepin her moist...
Preparing to remove hook
Reviving and release
Dinner...

Great stuff Luke, congrats!!!
Just one thing though: "through" a topwater???
I guess even college boys miss the easy stuff now and then! _________________ Dave

Good catch, even spell-check would have missed that one.
I would rather goof and say "through" instead of "threw",
rather than say "chunked a lure" versus "chucked a lure". But lets not go there. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Either way it gets the point across here in the South. Its ok to say threw, and chucked without anyone noticing the difference. I myself have chunked lures and chucked wood into a pile. Up north it may be different. I draw the line at throwed. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

hahaha, very funny Cody. Went again last night between 5-7:30, got two reds, 23" and 24" and 6 trout, all short. You and chuck are lucky this time. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
