Weather permitting, I'll be staying at Goose from OCT 2nd to the 6th in the camper. I have never stuck around there, only launched the boat and fished the bays, so I am not familiar with the fishing spots. Any suggestions?
I plan on taking a "Port A" day to hit up the jetties during the week, but would be nice to hear there are some spots in the park or just a short drving distance away.
Thanks ahead of time.... |

if you have a kayak
or don't mind getting very very very very muddy
or just want to bank fish (there is a shell road you can navigate pretty easily along ways down.
the marsh by campsite 45 holds reds in the grasses in the morning,
there's lots of oyster shells, and tons of mullet, and flooded grasses
but you would not want to take a power boat in there, real shallow and muddy and it's a sea grass restoration area. |

Also there is a great wade spot on behind the air port in rockport, there is a small community park w/ pic nic tables, and you can wade / yak / bank fish behind it.

I would wade the reefs accessed from the pier. There are several deep cuts and drop offs on either side of the reef to the east of the pier. Also, head down to the Big Tree. Good wade fishing in that area. Its a decent grass bottom out about 100 yards with a drop off there. Then head over the causeway pier on the just across 35. From the parking lot you can wade along Newcome point, the bottom is variable with oyster beds, grass, sand, and some deep mud. There really are lots of places to try around there.
Good luck,

Well, it was a great trip. Had a blast doin the coast do, had a nice dinner at Charlotte Plumbers, went and checked out the Lexington, and of course did some fishing. The first day I hit the goose island pier and fed the perch, bunch of nothin. Monday morning I took you guys advice and hit up airport park. Man what a nice fishing spot. I got there around 9 after catching some mullet at the park, then wasting 13 dollars on a quart of live shrimp that were about 6 inches long each, and set up camp on the little shell island. There were fish EVERYWHERE, mostly trout, but I couldnt get them to take anything. I threw everything I had at them, live shrimp, dead shrimp, on cork, on bottom, gold spoon, silver spoon, top water fish lure, cocohos, gulp shrimp, gulp ghost shrimp, live mullet, dead mullet, nothing. They were popping the water and knocking me in the legs all day. There were also mullet everywhere, big and small.
There is nothing worese than leaving the wife in the trailer all day long and coming home empty handed, PLEASE give me something to put on the grill!!!!
Finally around noon I catch a dink on live mullet, and all went quiet again untill about 400. I hit on live mullet and after about a 5 minute fight I got dragged across the oyster and my line was cut. Anoter cast and another hook up, and finally a keeper red in at 22". Another cast and another break off, then a keeper 18" trout. After about a 20minute break, I hooked up with a big boy, and fought that sucker for a good 10 minutes. BTW, was fishing my new to me Stella 2500 on the 7ft light action gloomis rod with 10lb test, so it was a workout getting this thing in. Anyway, landed a 27" red that had some serious weight to him.
Had another good one after that but it spit the hook at me and nearly hit me between the eyes. called it a day and got a bunch of props from some of the waders that came in for the evening fish.
Ate very well that night....
The last night we were there I backed up my truck to the seawall at the park and therw out a live mullet, landed a 19" flounder after about 30 seconds in the water. Another hour later and packed it up, damn those things are tasty.....
