at least Obama's union friends are making good money cleaning up the spill...

we don't need any volunteers or standard hourly labor... why would we do that when we could have a union come in and write a contract for labor at 4x the going rate!

Seriously come now. How about Bush and his family and friends at Haliburton making billions off of the so called search for weapons of mass destruction that they still have not found. Lets try to stay on topic.

halliburton made millions searching for WMD's?

no.. halliburton had the contract for shipping supplies and the associated logistics of those supplies.

The issue of Obama/EPA using strictly union labor is perfectly relevent to this thread.

you see, when you have thousands of people out of work, or near to being out of work, they should allow those people to be working on issues of the spill cleanup, if they wish to be. However, primarily only union labor is being allowed to perform much of the cleanup. I guess it's not as important to get people that actually know the area, or even know what they're doing, as much as it is to insure union labor is responsible for the cleanup....

Let's say you are right though... and Bush had it all set up (even though the typical story was that Cheney was pulling his strings, etc..)

Does that make this OK? having an environmental disaster on the beach, and sending thousands of people awy that want to help clean it up is OK, since "bush did something bad too"?

two wrongs make a right seems to be the mantra of the people wanting to shut down drilling in the gulf.

dont forget the strippers in coastal drilling towns.. They Have taken a huge hit as well.

On another note. We filed a claim with BP 2 weeks ago for lost income for our navarre beach rental. We got a claim number and an email from acegroup. I guess they are the ones that will be handling the claims.. If we get paid I will update..

I think your post is off topic. I think the first one is on topic.

To clarify, there is a huge difference between Halliburton hauling support personal over to a country to support our soldiers where there was no help. The search did turn up a program to develop nuclear WMD, which his own countrymen hung him for among other things like genocide by killing 10's and possibly 100's of thousands of Kurds and other non-muslims in his own country with nerve gas, biological weapons, bombing strikes, etc, etc.

The story everyone missed is that 550 metric tons (thats over 1,200,000 pounds!) of Yellow Cake (enriched uranium) was found in in Iraq in June 2008. The last remnants of Saddam's nuclear program. They briefly mentioned it then moved on. For some reason that never made headlines or was the top story on any of the news shows on the networks. Amazing how much they covered how the "No WMDs Have Been Found" played over and over and over again for the better part of 2 years, and when word comes out Bush was right, they ignore it and the story fades away.

What the Obama administration did was decide not hire local people perfectly capable and in dire need of jobs in order to ship in and pay 4 times the hourly wages to union workers who already have jobs, not to mention the tab also includes hotel, transportation, and food bills.

Anytime you get the feds involved you have to use the union or pay union scale, just the way it is.

What about the folks BP has hired to help with the clean up, are they union workers too or being paid union scale?

It is a shame that they ship folks in to do the clean up when the local folks need the work & would like getting union scale pay too.

I don't get your point. You think unions are dragging down the economy?

The auto workers union drug them into the pits for sure, not sure I'd blame unions for all the economy's problems tho. I think that had something to do with the wallstreet boys.

What I'm wondering is WHY is the Obama admin and BP takiing so long at stopping the leak and pretty much ignoring any ideas from outside sources. For exmaple, I was listening to a radio talk show last night where a guy who works for the LA water services and has for yrs, said they stop major water mains/pipe leaks under pressure with a device that is a large tapered, pointed, steel piece that is lowered into the pipe and it is weighted at the other end. This piece of steel is rubber coated for a better seal and it doesn't matter if the leaking pipe is smooth or jagged at the cut. He said on dry land it takes them about 12 hrs to stop a major water blowout. He was wondering why something common like this was not being fabricated or tried in this BP case. Me too! It sounds pretty logical using something like this, kind of like an "easy-out" for removing boogered up screws/bolts. I heard another professor of physics say they should use a solid steel rod with hollow like tires around it and after insertion into the pipe, hydraulic fluid could be pumped in to expand the tires to seal off the oil flow. She tried to contact BP several times and just was hung up on. This oil blowout works perfectly for the Obama admin to stop the evil oil drilling offshore to pacify all his far left wacko greenies who were getting upset with him. Plus, after all presently the only states that are being damaged are the Repub led ones that were having good economies(unlike all the Dem led ones on the coasts who are bankrupt)and are in the fly-over states that didn't vote for him. This lack of effort seems very suspicious to me.

does anyone really believe that BP has not looked into every possible option to stop the release of oil? does the water services guy have experience w/ oil at a mile deep? what about the physics professor? the idea that BP wants this to continue any longer than the rest of us is simply absurd.
