Howdy,

Headed out to South Packery Jetty after work this morning. Flat surf, but not as clear as I had hoped. I wanted to catch some trout, but no luck. Far too many blue runners and perch out there to use live shrimp and I didnt catch any on lures. I caught the biggest pinfish I had ever seen.

On lures, I was gettting hit after hit on small mackerel. Managed two keepers at 16.5" and 17". I did catch a 15" king, which I returned to the water. The bite turned off when a 4 ft king blasted out of the water. I caught a runner and placed it out on a slide for a few hours with no luck. Saw one other king blast 10' out of the water.

Packed it in and headed to the house to get cleaned up to run erans. Managed enough for a meal. I was fortunated to catch what I did. No one else was catching anything except a few small sharks.

Nice. Make the Trayco fish dip with those Macs. Mesquite grill, chill, add a red onion, some chili petins, real mayo and and the juice of a lime, stir until it is a dip, serve on wheat crackers......awesome

Do you mean blue runners or bluefish? Superficially they look kind of similar. I know blue runners are common at rigs but I didn't know they were caught at the jetties too? Thanks for the report and great pics.

I meant exactly what I said, blue runners. Been catching runners every since I was a little kid from piers and jetties. Favorite bait for kings. I have fished once or twice before *WINK*

Hell, you'd know better than I, hence why I asked Laughing . Thats pretty cool! Have you caught them with any respectable size inshore, or just bait size. Im always impressed by the diversity of fish you see come up on the jetties. Can't wait to snorkel them this summer.

Take those blue runners and put them on a balloon instead of a slide line for kings and see what you come up with!
