OK -- been using mono top shots following the ounces of weight x 10 formula and have run into trouble with the knot (an albright) ripping into the top guide of my rods or being slowed substantially when casted. I have thought about using braid or something like that but am not sure.
Wht do you all use and what knots might be a better fit? If you use braid, what brand and how much do you reel onto the spool? Thanks for the help! _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

are you using several locks on your albright or straight albright? and you might not be looping it enough, and if you're going really thin to thick you might try a spider hitch in your braid before the albright. or just cut down on your mono thickness with either a fluoro coated mono, or just use thinner mono. _________________

| I use granny knot on the shock leader in which the mainline goes through. You then do about a five wrap uni knot to that overhand granny knot and trim the big granny knot end. The mainline uni just snubs up to the granny so the biggest part to go through the guides is that granny. Rudy has an animation of it somewhere. |

And more important, "Where is John Galt" when we really need him? _________________ Big Ed

| The Red Phillips knot is a great knot and I use it mostly for deep jigging. Another great knot I use is the Sebile Knot and IMO is a better knot for distance casting. |

Check out the shock leader knot as tied by my friend Roger Mortimore

Also look at the blob knot. Nick Meyer uses that one for distance casting. |
