I am thinking of renting a slip at marker 37 this summer. The wear and tear on my truck and having to deal with a trailer are making the 200 a month seem well worth it. If I go fishing 6 times a month I spend that much on gas for my truck alone.

So I want to keep the dargel in the air. I have an on board charger to keep the battery at peak. I plan on keeping the battery in a battery box. I will flush the motor of course. I will make sure the pulleys for the lift are further apart then the hull to keep the slings from putting stress on the hull. Also of course keep the boat as high as possible for possible crazy high spring tides. I will spray corrosion x on anything and everything as much as possible.

But what am I missing? What about all the aluminum on my boat? What about my steering system? The boat has new gelcoat but the motor is older than most of your kids. I wont be affording a new one for quite some time but I am not super concerned with corrosion on a 25 year old motor.

Thanks in advance from you guys on the island that keep your boat above the water all the time.

Battery switch? You may already have one installed with the OBC unit.

I saw where a smart person put a small electric pressure washer tucked in the ceiling of his lift out at Bluff's Landing for ease of cleaning. Also I am told the salt air is not as bad in the Bluff...LOL

Don't know about there but here you can't rent a slip for just the summer. You have to rent it for the whole year. Otherwise, they would only be in business for 1/2 the year. L

Your still sepnding gas to drive your truck to your boat, unless your hoping on a bicycle. Laughing

It is still sittting right over salt water, which isn't much better than it sitting in the salt water.

Sitting above the saltwater it is going to corrode away. Look at anything metal near the water. As for the aluminum, not sure how that works.

I happen to own a few vehicles and not all of them get 9 mpg. Smile

And If I do happen to drive my truck. It will be a little more effecient without 2000 lbs being towed behind it.

Not extremely helpful input. But Thanks. Wink

Now that our economy is in shambles, and the real estate boom is over.....Buy a house/condo with a boat slip on the Island! If you spend $400 more a month than you do now on your mortgage you'll come out ahead. No gas/towing and the boat behind your casa on the water!

Robul,

I had mine in a sling at Clem's for a little over a year. I think it was $175. It is convenient. The biggest problem I had was seagulls and pelicans liked to roost on it and crap on it. The other problem was mildew on cushions. The cushions were almost always wet when I went fishing. Electric pressure washer is a good idea. If you are planning on gas with the 5 gallon cans, the ones that are sold at the stores now aren't fit to be used as the spouts weren't long enough for mine. I extended the spout of the gas can with some heater hose.

Don't leave anything you value on the boat. The only thing I had stolen was a $15 cooler with a broken lid. Go figure. One boat had one of the TRP props stolen and a week or two later I heard they came back for the the whole lower unit.

Thank you for the info! I already contacted my insurance company to see if coverage will extend out that way.. I can see how one can easily pull up to a boat and steal parts off motrs.. I hope I dont have an issue with the birds nesting as my boat has no gunnells or areas for them to find a corner.. Im sure If I do keep my boat there I will install a game cam of some sort or motion cam that records data on data cards.. a 32 gig card will store a months worth a data on motion only..

I was about to suggest a good prop. lock, but that will not solve the problem if the thieves decide to take the whole lower unit.

its a 16 footer with the 7 foot beam.. its the biiiig scooter.. honestly gas savingn will be nice but convenience to fish without having to deal with trailering will be the biggest sale point for me.

I thought about calling clems up also but I like the idea of marker 37 more as each stall has a lock plus if you see a boat or kayak inside the marina it will be a little more suspiscous and its quite lit unlike clems. plus at clems you have to deal with the packary current when its ripping which could be tuff to get in and out of there.

I guess I could get a lift without the cover at marker 37 and that would help with moister on cushions but Id prefer the cover.. I am going to go down there today and probably sign the lease..
