http://www.mirrolure.com/paulbrown/pricelist.html

Looks like the "good ole boy" price will not be available in the near future, allowing for local distributors to keep there prices.

I can't believe how much a piece of plastic can cost.

Explain how the mirrOlure hard baits are $2 cheaper than the mirrOlure corky's. And they last a hell of alot longer. Don't get me wrong, i love the corky's but come on.

it's pretty simple... the materials and process are cheaper/easier to make a hard bait. why does a scented soft plastic cost more than an unscented one? because the process and materials are more costly.

They're marking these lures up because they can. Supply and demand. They're still selling out at the stores.

I think you're spot on with the supply and demand. Plus they may do large volumes of hard plastic lures, but only a few different varieties of softies, which may come from a different factory altogether, which may lead to them being a bit more pricey. But as long as somebody is willing to pay for it (myself included even at $9 a pop), they can charge as much as they like until we say enough is enough. Funny though, I have had more luck on the other mirrolures this winter than the corky, but I guess its only this one season.

On a side note, I think it was mentioned earlier, but one of the trouts from the Baffin blast tourny had an intact brand new corky in the stomach. Fisherman just cut it and let the fish swallow all 9 bucks worth. A few extra ounces never hurt on the scale, right? Wink

I agree w/ the demand part. When Paul was making them mostly by him self they were only $6- $6.50 and now atleast 7.99. Now they are mass produced, in another country, and there more??? I know that's the way it works but just seems funny. O well!!!!

Mr. Brown wasn't paying a rep group, and there were no (well, less) middlemen. Now that mirrolure is producing the lures, there is a A LOT more overhead. These lures are not made in China, they are made in a factory that has a higher cost of labor and better quality control. Then, Mirrolure has to distribute them. The factory has to make their money, then distributors get their cut, then there still has to be some room for the retailer to mark it up 20-50%. So, 8.99 makes sense. No, I don't like it.... but it does make sense when you consider the process...

I appreciate the input, but how come the catch 5's are roughly $2 less? They have been sold all over the world for queit a few years. The corky just came out, from mirrolure. Thats really what is getting me confused.

The price is what it is because it is what the market will bear, not necessarily because of the cost of manufacturing. Part of what drove up the price of these items was that they are or were difficult to find and purchase. Now that MirrorLure has purchased the company they will likely flood the market with these items keeping the price high for the time being. Once everyone gets their tackle box full and you can buy them at any Academy on any given Sunday, demand will die down and they will adjust the price accordingly. Other factors to consider are that now Corky’s are owned and produced by MirrorLure (which is what appears to have happened) some of the mystic may wear off on fishermen. And with folks catching fish like R Arnold did the other day on products that compete well with the Corky, I anticipate that the price is bound to fall. MirrorLure didn’t purchase the company from Paul Brown because they couldn’t duplicate his lure. I’m sure they could have replicated his technology. They bought the brand. For the time being they are going to capitalize on the brand recognition and pent up demand. As for overhead, I’m sure it’s cheaper PER UNIT for MirrorLure to research, make, and deliver these products then it is for Mr. Brown. See “economies of scale”.
I’m actually glad a major manufacturer bought the company. Now we don’t have to worry where we will find Corky’s when Paul Brown no longer wishes to produce them. Now we don’t have to call his office to order them, we will find them at Academy.
