After the last major fish killing freeze there was a lot of talk about the damage barge traffic caused to fish using the deeper water of the intra coastal canal for shelter by mixing the super cold surface water with the bottom water espicaly in the land cut.
Question - Does the TPWD now have the authority to shut down barge traffic when the water in the intra coastal canal or was there just an aggrement with the barge ownere to shut down for the time period when the most damage would result?

read the other thread. there is an agreement with the barge owners, they'll wont run if it freezes. Already taken care of, believe it or not, by one CCA boardmember, one TPWD biologist, and Mr. Berry.

Porky.....I can't say if the cca was involved in the commitment from the other bardge & towing companies but if I'm not mistaken the other companines that use the ICW were and agreed were:
Kirby Marine
Pateroleum Services
Resource Recycling
Bludworth Marine
G & H Towing
Hollywood Marine

Most of these are out of the Houston area and push Benzine to Mexico.

Even so, why ask me? I never worked for the TPWD. I vaguely recall that TxDOT is in charge of intrastate barge movements in Texas. Hope the others answered your question.
